This is the fastest growing sport in America. Now that everyone is raving about the Daytona 500 I feel like im the only one thats not gonna watch. Can someone please explain to me whats the big deal about NASCAR and why the Daytona 500 is even worth watching?

I watched one race in my life: The one where Dale Earnhardt died. I don't watch anymore, I'm bad for the sport.

Why am I always on a plane or a fast train
Oh what a world my parents gave me
If I wanted to watch a redneck drive a car around a circular course real fast (and potentially crash), I'll just sit alongside the Beltway.

did anyone watch the show on the discover channel last night about bootleggers and rumrunners during prohibition. it was a great show, but they were saying that guys would soup up their cars and blast through the night, get chased by the cops and drive at breakneck speeds in excess of 150 mph.
auto racing became a popular spectator sport as cars became more available. and many of the early car racers were rumrunners. it evolved into nascar and that's why nascar is so hillbilly.

i like the pretty colors of all the cars. but 90% of the race is pretty boring. it's a good sport to watch when either getting tanked or taking a nap. the only fairly exciting parts are the pit stops, when a move actually takes place or a crash. this was one of the most impressive things i've seen...

Baseball is boring. Pitcher throws it to the catcher, catcher throws it back. Pitcher throws it to the catcher, catcher throws it back. Pitcher throws it to the catcher, catcher throws it back. Pitcher throws it to the catcher, it's a hit wake up, wake up. Go back to sleep it's a foul ball.
Baseball is boring.
Nascar you have over 40 cars traveling between 100 - 200 miles an hour within inches of each other and with one false move someone could lose their lives. The passing, pit strategy, the deals made and lost during a race make it a very exciting sport.

Nascar is boring!
Plus, there is nothing stock about NASCARs. They still have 4 carbuerators, push rod V8s. You can't even purchase a carbuerated car, and most cars have overhead cams. Plus, they look nothing like their consumer counterparts.
If you want to watch racing, F1 is the only way to go. In F1 the drivers are talented, and it actually takes talent to pass. Plus, F1 has a 2 hour time limit. F1 cars can pull 4.1Gs, and turn 19,000RPMs.
Rally racing is also a great form of Auto racing

I used to hate NASCAR and everything about it.
Now, I'm a full fledged Dale Earnhardt Jr. supporter.

I love F1 also but I wish there were more places on the track to pass. Normally in a race there are one maybe 2 places on a track to pass in F1. It all comes down to qualifying and getting in and out of the pits.
I would love to see an F1 race held at Cleveland where they can go 8 wide and see what happens then.

i was a huge dale earnhardt fan from the time i first started watching. I even went to a race to see him up in New Hampshire. I watched the whole race the day he died trying to help his teammates Waltrip and his son finish 1st and 2nd. I haven't really paid much attention since that day...i can't do it. I hear his son won today...I am happy for him and his family.

doesn't really interest me either. power boat racing is also boring but if those boats get airborne it can be horrific.
