View Full Version : The Make-Up Oscar - NOT an Oscar for Make Up!

Which "make-up" Oscar winner annoyed you the most - and what I mean, which person won an Oscar as a consolation prize for a sub-par role for a role (or roles) they should have gotten?
Here are two off the top of my pointed head:
* Whoopi Goldberg comes to mind; winning for "Ghost" when she should have won for "The Color Purple."
* Robin Williams winning for "Good Blah Blahing" instead of "World According to Garp," "Good Morning Viet Nam" or one of the others.
Any other real glaring ones come to mind?

Isn't Denzel the best example of this?
Him winning Best Actor for anything other than "Malcolm X" is a joke. Him winning for "Training Day" is a crime.

Jack Pallance should have won for "Shane" and not "City Slickers"!!! And I should get a make-up Oscar for my performances in "Mug Shot in Sandy Hook" and the sequel "Mug Shot 2- this time it's in Belmar!"

When LOTR wins this year, everyone is going to say 'its really an award for all 3 movies' And thats 'making up' a lot of bullshit.

Speilberg should have won for THE COLOR PURPLE, but I wouldn't take away SHINDLER'S LIST - SAVING PRIVATE RYAN is a different story, though.
Russell Crowe for GLADIATOR - should have won for THE INSIDER
Cher for MOONSTRUCK - should have won for either MASK or SILKWOOD
Cuba Gooding Jr. for JERRY MAGUIRE - should have won for BOYZ IN THE HOOD
Sydney Pollack for OUT OF AFRICA - should have won for TOOTSIE
Susan Surradon for DEAD MAN WALKING - should have won for ATLANTIC CITY and THELMA AND LOUISE
and maybe the King of this award...
Al Pacino won for SCENT OF A WOMAN - should have won for any of the following: SERPICO, DOG DAY AFTERNOON, AND JUSTICE FOR ALL and GODFATHER 1 or 2.

Um, am I allowed to mention something that actually does have to do with make-up? Whoever did the makeup for turning Charlize Theron into Aileen Weurmos, deserves some props, if not the oscar; geh, geh geh

Al Pacino for "Scent of a Woman" -- pick any of his 1970s movies.

Paul Newman for "The Color of Money" instead of "Hud," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "Cool Hand Luke," "The Hustler" and pretty much everything he did prior.
Sydney Pollack for OUT OF AFRICA - should have won for TOOTSIE
"Tootsie" was a great movie, but I would have given the oscar to Pollack for "Three Days of the Condor" even earlier. I still need to see "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" as well.
