View Full Version : Why the Hatred of Hockey?

I'm sick of people always saying how much the hate hockey and the National Hockey Leauge.
People constantly complain about how the game is slow and boring. Its the fastest game on earth!
They also complain about how the game is low scoring. So what if it's low scoring, its still exciting. A goalie making a big save on a shot isn't exciting? I'm sick of it.

I agree, Keithy! Especially with people's disdain of air hockey!!! Fuck 'em, just because I can beat anyone at air hockey when I'm drunk and seeing double and giggling about the Avon Lady that fell through my front porch trap-door into a pit of marmelade and razor blades and that I think Sherry Lewis is hot and what were we talking about again?

Bob MacKenzie: We're here with a real hockey great: Guy LaFluer
Doug MacKenzie: LaFluer is a good hockey name. What does it mean? The wolf? The Tiger?
Guy LaFleur: LaFleur means the Flower.

Looks like the plan for next season (if their is one) is to push the nets back a little more, bring back tag-up offsides and goalies can't go behind the goal line. Possibly OT shootouts.

I think the NHL should get rid of the two line pass. And the ot shoot out I think is an ok idea. But only after the 5 minutes have been played.
As for the goalie not being allowed to play the punk behind the net, it's shit. That rule singles out goaltenders like Martin Brodeur who have that skill. Its like saying that Joe Sakic, after 2 goals in a game, can't score anymore. It takes the skill away from the players. It's shit.

I thought it was:
Lacrosse: Fastest game on two feet
Hockey: Fastest game on Ice
But I could be wrong...again.

Hockey, like most pro sports, has many things that need to be fixed (OT, for example, needs to be revamped). But it doesn't change the basic fact that Hockey rules.
BTW, I'm not defending lacrosse or anything, but NFL hall of famer Jim Brown is considered to be on of the best lacrosse players ever. If Big Jim Brown played lacrosse, there's got to be something to it.

As a life-long fan, it makes me sad at how boring the NHL has become. The clutching, grabbing, and that God awful trap defense have turned the most exciting sport on earth into a snooze fest.
The "OTL" (overtime loss) has also made the games far less meaningless when you still get a point for losing the game.
Aside from widening the rinks to 100 feet like the rest of the world and abolishing the red line, I don't know what else can bring back the wide open speed and passing game.

they wanna do all that. the first things though, is to move the net back to make the attack zone bigger and the back of the net area smaller. also they are heavily considering eliminating 2 line pass calls, which would really make things fun, especially with the outlet passes some of these goalies can make now

Let the goalies go wherever they want. I remember a few years ago when Roy (who is insane to begin with) took the puck up the ice. He even did a spin-o-rama at center ice. I would have loved to see him get in front of the crease & take a shot.
Also, sell raw squid in every arena.
And make helmets optional. Most guys will still wear 'em, but a few maniacs won't. That'll make it more fun.

its football and lacrosse on ice to a point, and you can fuckin level someone with a hip, shoulder, or fist. or, though you get in trouble for this, and 5 foot long piece of kevlar and wood or alluminum composite

HOCKEY IS THE FASTEST SPORT ON TWO LEGS!
FUCK LACROSSE!
How in the world can you go 20-30 MPH in Lacrosse when you can on the ice?
You need the eyes of a baseball player, the endurance of a long distance runner and the agility of a gymnist (or close to) and the power of a football player.
so how in the world can you talk smack about such a game.
I am not knocking lacrosse but I do not think it is nearly as amazing as hockey. Just a personal opinion.
Besides...how many other great over 40 year old's are there playing lacrosse?
Hockey rules.

i don't hate hockey. But it would not bother me one bit if there weren't another season.
It just seems like you don't need alot of talent to smash into another guy, and to fight. You need to be big and tough, and rely less on finesse and real talent.

Skating in all the equipment while keeping you eyes on the puck while keeping your head up to avoid getting leveled requires a lot of skill.
