Two years ago I was visiting friends who were living in Mexico, and the empathy and sorrow felt by many of them towards America after September 11 was still very, very real.

In the resort towns, like Cancun, business was devestated - the worst spring break they ever had, in 2002, because travel and tourism everywhere was effective.

While it was a classless act, I think it also points to how our country squandered a golden opportunity - there was a very brief, very important moment in the history of modern civilization where most everyone with us, and now, with the exception of England, Spain and Australia, we really have no more friends around the world - and even there, the relationships are not perfect.



Time to go nail another thesis to the WJFK door...

Why do you think soccer started the Falklands War?

A couple of years after it the war England played Argentina in a World Cup match (1980) and Maradona punched a ball into the net causing England to lose the match. The goal was nicknamed "The hand of God". It caused a lot of trouble in the stadium but no actual country vs. country war

I just meant the animousity between the two countries was the result of their soccer rivalry. I mistakenly thought that the "Hand of God" play predated the Falklands (or Islas Malvinas) war.
