Or we can just focus on this news.

He is a person I advocate going to NWA TNA. He needs to get the stink of what he became in the WWE off of him and really showcase and be a contender down in tna. I know what Kanyon is capable of, I hope he can be that again.

From the pwinsider 2/9 Q&A:

I am just curious to know what happened to Kanyon. I have noticed he hasn't been on TV lately and hasn't even done any dark matches. Has he been fired? If so, what do you think his chances are of turning up on TNA ?

He hasn't been fired, but he's not being used much by WWE either. The company has just not come up with anything for him on TV, so he has been spending most of his time teaching youngsters down at OVW. Why this is, I can't say.

I can tell you this, with the friends he has in TNA, if WWE lets him go he will have zero problem finding work there. He would be brought in right away.

From chriskanyon.com

As was reported earlier today on WWE.com, I was released from my contract with the WWE effective Monday 2-9-04. For the past year or so I have not been 100% happy with the direction of my career and of my life in general. This release actually comes at a very good time for me.. I have not completely decided what I will do at this time, but there are many prospects for me in and out of pro wrestling and I am excited about the potential for my future. I know a lot of this sounds like politically correct bull, but the truth is I am happier, more motivated and more excited than I have been in a long time. My past 12 years in this business have been phenomenal and have provided me many great opportunities and memories. I am sure that whatever I decide to do in the future will provide many more great opportunities and memories for me, my family and friends. I will keep everyone updated on my future.

That sounds kinda like a retirement statement.

But either way, don't let the door hit ya in the ass.

He's better off elsewhere.

MANY in the promotion are better off elsewhere.

The "WWE Dream" is a fucking joke. Unless you're a hoss, or are a) fucking a McMahon or b) friends with a McMahon (and this includes being a friend of you-know-who, who IS a McMahon now), you're pretty much screwed. It's either jobberville or perpetual midcard status for you.

Spanky was smart enough to know he is extremely talented and that was being wasted in the WWE. Kanyon didn't ask for his release like Kendrick, but apparently he's bright enough to know that he too has many assets that other promotions look for.

Mark, use your pull (I know you have it!) to make sure TNA does what it can to sign him. He's the kind of guy that they can make into a star, instead of wasting time & effort (and money) on schmucks like Gowan, Chyna or Savage.

Where do Eddie, Cena, and Angle fit in here?

Kanyon is a mid-level mid carder, glorified by silly people. If he was even remotely as good as some make him out to be, he wouldn't be floundering. Not just WWE, but WCW too.

I'll take a Hurricane match any day.

Outside of Angle, none of them have truly made it into the main event scene. Cena's flirting in the upper midcard now; Eddie's angle with Brock MIGHT place him in the main event if he's booked right, but it'll all go to shit if immediately afterwards if they pull a Jericho and demote him back into the upper midcard.

Eddie & Cena got over by THEMSELVES. Cena got a shit gimmick, and he got himself over with it. Eddie got so over on his own that the WWE was FORCED to acknowledge it and give the guy a decent program.

The only reason Angle got initially pushed was because he was a gold-medalist and thus was good publicity for the WWE. He then got over pretty much on his own due to charisma and sheer wrestling ability.

They're all aberrations, though. For every Eddie or Angle, there's 3 or 4 A-Trains or Matt Morgans or Tests.

Eddie did get over, without falling into any of the categories you listed. Now he is about to become WWE champ. Those things you listed help, but are obviously not a requirement.

Now he is about to become WWE champ.

What? He's not going to win... Angle will beat him so he can beat Goldberg at WM.

I think this is the best thing for Kanyon's career. He's released by the WWE because it's obvious they didn't know what to do with him. If it were up to me, he'd be US Champion. He'd definitely make that title worth something rather than the Big Slow.

It wasn't even so much they didn't know what to do with him, a lot of it was personal.
