I'm sure most of you have already heard about the Maurice Clarett thing, since its been mentioned on ESPN every FIVE SECONDS but anywho, im interested in what the board thinks about it...

Personally, I dont think he's going to do all that well, he hasnt played in almost two years, and he had mad durability issues that kept him out of a bunch of games...And hes going to have a pretty good target on himself...not to mention all the off the field stuff..

I still don't understand how a judge could just throw something out of a legally binding Collective Bargaining Agreement, which the NFL's rule on not taking players before their high school class had been graduated for three years. I have no idea about labour agreements and labour contracts, but does this invalidate the entire CBA now that this provision no longer exists?

he missed 3 games his first year, caused nothing but trouble ever since. fuck him i hope he winds up going back to school for another year because when the NFL appeals this decision and trust me they will, it won't be resolved by the time draft day comes and he'll be assed out again. the kid had a good couple of games 2 years ago and he thinks he should be a first round draft pick.
if i remember correctly there was another RB from ohio state, the only man to win the heisman TWICE by the name of archie griffin. he didn't do shit in the NFL so just because he was considered for the trophy his freshman year does not make him a lock as a hall of famer. like i said fuck him i hope he never gets to the NFL but my luck the raiders will draft him @ #2 with manning, roethlisberger and fitzgerald on the board. because god knows we love people with issues.

In the words of Sean Salisbury "Steak"...

"He wasn't even the best back in the country when he played for Ohio State"

I know my Raiders have taken their share of people nobody wants for various reasons, but everyone did think Marcus Allen was too slow, and thats how he ended up a Raider....but i don't think Maurice will end up as a Marcus Allen...

A lot of people think he will go to the Patriots, being as they have a surplus of picks in the first couple rounds, and a need for a RB....

after getting himself back into game condition i think he would be a good change of down back.

but it depends what kind of back is he? power? speed?

Does the name Ron Dayne ring a bell?

Dayne's problem was that he was just too damn big....thats why Jerome Bettis's career went down the toilet...he just got too fat and couldnt move any more...

Clarett is more of a shifty type of back with a little bit of power...a lot of the NFL guys(espeically Salisbury and Mark Schlereth) say he doesn't have enough speed to play in the L...

I think he has durability issues. Missed games his only college year. Maybe he want in the NFL now before he becomes Curtis Enis, Ki-Jana Carter, or Tsumunga Biabiaktuka (some Big Ten backs with injury shortened pro careers).

Clarett is more of a shifty type of back with a little bit of power...a lot of the NFL guys

if thats the case (sorry i dont follow college sports) i think he would fit in any place where you have an aging speed back. he would help lighten the load and fit in in power situations. im not saying he will be amazing, i just think if used properly he would be useful. if hes a change of down back then that lowers his risk of getting injured. again im not saying he will be good, just useful!

Its funny, when he first brought up the suit, a whole lot of people were siding with him and aginst the nfl. Now, its all reversed.

That being said, i think that he might surprise some people, but i don't think he'll be the game-breaker he was once thought.

The thing that separates college from the pros is the division of talent. As a runner in college, if you're at a big-time school like Miami or Ohio State, you get all the best players. That means that you have a QB and WRs who can take a whole lot of pressure off, and you have a line that could open up 747-size holes.

This kind of talent, especially on the line, is hard to come by in the NFL, at least for teams picking in the top-ten. That os why so so so so many big-time runners (especially those from the Big 10. Miami still is able to produce pro runners despite what i mentioned earlier) just can't make it in the NFL.

Also, the judge is a huge twat, there are other leaguse where Clarett can ply his trade--the AFL, the CFL, or he could have swallowed some pride and played D-II. Clarett got himself into a mess, and like always, someone is helping him get out. He got kicked off the Buckeyes, so he should have to suffer the consequences.

What a damn cry-baby.

I think the guy just reeks of problems once in the Nfl, but his entry will help every team in the entire draft as far as first round picks are concerned since it will lower a great deal of players one notch in terms of availability. As far as how he will fair once in the league, I believe Lavar Arrington has already come out and said that alot of players are going to make it a priority to rough him up on the field because of the way he went about this whole situation.

Its terrible. Football is nothing like NBA or MLB or NHL. the difference in a 18 year old football player and a 22 year old is so imense. HS players are not ready for college during freshman year let alone NFL. someone could seriously get killed on the feild.

I totally agree. Just in terms of the physical makeup of players, college is there in order to prepare guys for the brutal hits of the Nfl. I would not be surprised at all to see Clarrett get seriusly injured early in his carreer just because he hasn't gone through the necessary training to prepare him.
