Thank God, for a few years atleast the FAN has lost the right to Knicks and Rangers games. SOmeone called Joe B and brought it up, And Joe B confirmed. No link yet (Havnt looked) but I feel this is great news. I thihnk its M&MD 1-6+ Schmooze 6+-9, Continent 9-1am. Finally I wont have to sleep in silence because of a game. Now just those pesly Mets are left.....

first of all no one is better than the schmoozer. secondly i like real new yorkers on my radio station. i want people who know who bob murphy is and love everything he has done. i want to hear a station who is full of people whol love the mets, jets and knicks just like me. and i love the schmoozer who loves to antagonize all the islader fans. i want people who have seen lamar odom and speedy claxton play their high school basketball games. fuck everyone else!!!!

Phix....You are absolutely correct on that one. Before I left NY, he was the ONLY host on the fan that I enjoyed listening to. M&MD had become too grating, antagonistic to callers and self-centered and I had started listening to Michael Kaye. Then HE started to get more grating and self-centered. Every show seemed to spend at least 1 hour talking about his own life.

New York sports radio had, for me, become a shell of what it was supposed to be. It all was kinda lousy (Schmoozer excepted with his brand of schmaltzy humor that always made me smile - evena as an Islander fan).

Devils (770 AM) Islanders(1050 AM) and Nets (770 AM) radio rights contract expires at the end of this season ... since ESPN radio and ABC 770 AM have the same parent company...they aren't going to sign all three of these "free agents" when they just got the rangers and knicks..

i'm guessing they will pick up the Nets..I don't think they'll try to get the Devils or Isles unfortunately.

Looks like the Isles will be on some shitty east end radio station like a few years back (i think it was 98.3 FM or something..)

Mornings- Mike and Mike vs Imus: No Contest. M/M are pretty good, and Imus sucks.

Midday: Michael Kay vs. Mac and Sid: Ok, this one goes to FAN

Afternoon- Wally and the Keeg vs. Mike and Chris- Easy. W/K actually get along, are funny and enjoy the listeners, and are very knowledgeable. Everything M/Md aren't.

Nights: Schmoozer vs. Rome- Two completely different hosts, too tough to compare. I guess it depends on who you are in the mood for.

Overall ESPN is better.

schooze is great for entertainment, but in terms of sports knowledge, look elsewhere.

i only get to listen for about an hour between 5 and 7...Wally and the Keeg are way better than Mike and the Mad Dog. in my opinion it isn't even close. they interact with the callers so much better. i like Brandon Tierney (sp?) alot also on the show and catch him from time to time on the weekends.

I'm not Mike & Dog's biggest fan...hell, I never would have found O&A if Mike & the Dog's February & March Knicks talk didn't bore me to tears...but they're not knowledgeable?!? Are you nuts? Francesa, although he may be overblown of person & ego, is a walking sports encyclopedia with insider knowledge & connections that are practically unrivaled in the world of sports radio.

And even as much of a stuttering prick as Russo is, yesterday on the ride home I heard him talking to a hockey announcer (I was in & out of the car, so I don't remember which one) and heard him recall the last few days of an NHL season, complete with match-ups, who needed to lose for the other teams to make the playoffs, and scores, etc. I'm pretty sure he was talking about the '92-'93 season...and it was HOCKEY...he & Mike couldn't care less about hockey & yet the silly bastard remembers it like it was yesterday.

How he got the job with that speech impediment is beyond me, but I don't know a single person with the right to say he's not knowledgeable. Perhaps an idiot savant, but knowledgeable about sports nonetheless.

i do like watching the fat man and the angry puppy on YES because i'm so hoping mike would have a massive heart attack on air and choke up some diet coke.

but the both of them DO know their sports. its a shame their knowledge makes them arrogant. i mean, having a good sports mind isnt really an ACHIEVEMENT. but its good when they put stupid callers in their place.

Overall i like espn radio more, but as much as Mike and the Mad dog annoy me I can't listen to Dan patrick. The guy just CONSTANTLY stops talking about sports and goes of on tangents about his damn personal life and inside friends. I don't give a shit about Dan Patrick's life, I DON'T CARE.

I have no idea what you all are listening to, but "The Schmoozer" is AWFUL.

I can't stand listening to him. His voice is terrible, his jokes are unfunny, his knowledge is limited, and I don't think he has very good reasoning skills. More often than not, a caller will try to make a point or formulate an perfectly cogent argument, and Somers will simply not understand what the person is trying to say and dismiss him, even though it is his stupidity, not the caller's that is the problem.

Awful, awful radio.
