to the Army. I mean there alot of things I can learn there (self confidence is #1 for me). My main reason of going is more for great job oppurtunities(sp?) and helping out my country. My parents strongly disapprove of me going cause they are afraid something is gonna happen to me. I already met with my recruiting officer and took the pre-test. After looking at the questions and such, I should have paid attention in school. I passed luckily.

Is there anyone on the board who has been in the Army or has been in the military? And if so Can you post when you went and how the experience was

What was your GT score?

Dont ever listen to your recruiter. Listen to me. I have YOUR best interest at heart.

The biggest thing is your MOS (job) while youre in.

You will probally get offered a bonus to take a shitty job or a job not many qualify for because it demands a high test score. Dont put too much into this because theyll tax the living shit out of it and break it up over years. Itll be gone in no time and you probally wont have shit but examples of money poorly spent to show for it.

If youre expecting to get a big moral boost when you join, think again. That shit comes after your half dead and about to cry for mommy but somehow make it through. Get used to showering with 30 guys in a tight shower room. Hope youre not shy. You will be stripped of whatever you have except for whats inside, which they cant take unless youre weak. Learn immediatly that it doesnt matter if it makes sense, or is the right thing. Just do it and shut the fuck up. Theyll tell you that when you get there. You will learn A LOT of shit. Most of which you wont be interested in at the time. Get used to the idea of things like poisen Ivy on your nuts, getting hit with tear gas, and brushing you teeth with dirt and a stick. This sint something everybody must go through, (besides the tear gas) but I happened to.

But at the point youre at, this stuff doesnt matter much. How old are you?

By the way you said it, I'll assume you took a simpole test probally in your recruiters office. Theyll tell you its good aslong as your not retarded and will qualify as an infantryman. You litterly have to be borderline retarded to NOT be smart enough for that. I believe you need a GT score of 80 to qualify. It might be 70-75 though. With a 110, you qualify for any job there is as for as the score goes. Now many jobs wont take people that are color blind or someting like that. Just because you have a 110 doesnt mean you can pick anything, just to clarify. The name of the test is the ASVAB. Tell your recruiter you want to take it ASAP. He's probally tried to weight you already to see if youll pass it. if you think you might be overwieght let me know and ill give you the info you need to find out how much you need to lose, because youll probally forget what the recruiter tells you.

Anyway the ASVAB is given every week somewhere in your area. The recruiter will take you to it and sign you in for it. You will recieve an overall ASVAB score with has to be at least 70 form 100 like a normal test, but more importantly youll get a list of all your........."area" scores. Like one portion will be to test mechanical shit. It might be called a "gm" iwith these scores 130 is the highest possible score. Now this part is odd but true. I met mecanics, grunts, pilots, tankers, medics, cooks, eVERYTHING while i was in and every single perosn in these job knew what thier GT (general technical) score was, and nothing else. Bottom line is no matter what job you want, you need a high GT score and none f the other categories matter. I'm tired now, my bum knee from that helicopter incident is acting up, let me know where youre at and what info you need, what jobs youre considering etc

To answer this I went , in order, to Missouri, Germany, Serbia, Germany, Ft Campbell Ky and Hawaii. Those were all for a year atleast and for months at a time I went to Louisiana, Cali and Alaska. The experience was good.
