how often do you go to the supermakert? what supermarket do you usually go to? what do you get? do you buy stuff for the whole week or just the stuff you need to cook a few meals?
my father makes me do his shopping...so i usually go to the local waldbaum's three times a week for him. i get him the usual stuff: milk, bread, eggs, vegetables...he always makes me buy lemons. for some reason my father can't live without lemons and he gets mad when i forget to buy them.
when i do my shopping i usually go to a co-op and sometimes i get free stuff cuz i've got a friend who works there. sometimes i go to this health food store on 1st. ave...i've got a friend who works there too and sometimes i get free veggies (but i don't use those for myself).
also, the game supermarket sweep kicked ass.
i think i started this thread just to say that.

We go once a week to the local
Shoprite or, if we're feeling
daring, we go to A & P. We
either drive or if we don't
want to lose our primo parking
space we take the little
grannie cart that we have. The
Shoprite and A & P over here in
Jersey City are both the size
of regular suburban
supermarkets-- they're huge
and have pretty much
everything you're looking for.
The A & P has more organic
veggies, tho.
We get everything in one
sweep. I used to stop off
every few days to get stuff as
I needed but then it felt like
I spent my entire life at the
supermarket.

I go to the Super Stop & Shop. Up here in boogie down New Ro yo, there are three giant stores within a mile of each other.
I can't buy for the week, because if I ever do so, I end up not cooking some nights, thus letting shit go bad. I'm a sucker for expiration dates. I assume that on 12:01 of the day the meat should have been sold by, it becomes grossly spoiled and inedible.
I also have to restrain myself from buying a new toothbrush every time I go. Does anyone else have toothbrush impulses or is it just me?

I always have to restrain
myself from buying the
uber-pack of Charmin.

Why are people with food stamps allowed to buy gallons of grape soda, pork rinds and gummy bears? And those rude checkouts..what attitude! I guess it's a Brooklyn thing.

As one who is on a first name basis with the pizza delivery guy and the Chinese food delivery guy, as well as the owners and entire wait staff of two different restaurants, I can tell you my trips to the A&P are usually for cleaning supplies and toilet paper. On the rare occasion that I buy food, I always over-buy, and wind up throwing out enough to feed a small village.

Price Club (or whatever is the equvalent in your area) is the best place to go shopping.
You go there once, spend like $300, and you won't have to go again for another year
