Yeah, that old gag.
But now I think this deal may actually go through. I think all parties involved want this deal to be done. Plus in addition to Jagr the blueshirts might also get the Caps goalie and a defenseman.

What do you guys think?

They'll still not make the playoffs.

They could sign Jagr, bring back Gretsky, get Hull and Foresburg and that team still wouldn't break .500. Though I wish the Devils could get Jagr, we would finally have a true offensive weapon.

I like the deal. Maybe Kovelov can get back the magic he had with Jagr and can get the team re started. They are only two points out of a spot. We cant get any worse.

ESPN says it's a deal, pending league approval.

How is it that I am a Devils fan but I keep defending the Rangers.
Take last years team...now THEY could not do any worse.
I think the rangers are better then the Islanders this year (sorry Isles fans)
And with Jagr? He might really kick it up for them. I think he needs to play for a team where the fans get VERY loyal and embrace new players.

Jagr's been sucking recently, though that may just be a function of being in Washington. Once again, they're giving up hot young talent (Anson Carter) for an old fart who's past his prime, er I'm sorry, a more "experienced" player. Didn't they realize that that strategy didn't help thm any the last twenty times they did it???

My only problem with Jagr is that he can be a major puck hog. That and you know he WILL talk shit about how the rangers are. I mean hell, he did that with the capitals. Only positive thing I see in him is that he has more offensive weapons now(Nedved,Kovalev,Messier,Lindros) and he has more of a chance of winning games. Jokes on the caps cause Carter hasn't done shit all year. Maybe their next move should be getting a new goalie and some defensemen.

I dont think offense is that big of a problem for this club. Not saying that everyone on the team is an offensive juggernaut (I heard them say this on the radio and couldnt wait to use it in the real world.)
What the Rangers really need is defense. I dont think you can stress this enough. Hockey isnt a game in which teams go out and try to outscore each other. The Rangers could get the top 5 offensive players in the league and Martin Broduer and would still stink because their defense would be unable to stop anyone.

Jagr's not old...he's what...31?

Anywho...this was a cost cutting move for my Caps...it had to be. They can't continue to hemmorhage money the way they have the last few years....i guess this was the hockey gods way of getting back at us for stealing Maxime Ouellet from the Flyers a couple years ago..

For you other long suffering Caps fans like me Smokin' Al Kokehead(Al Koken) on todays "John Thompson Show" said a Peter Bondra deal to either Ottawa or Toronto was imminent with the approval of Leonsis...I also saw today on my ESPN Insider he wants to cut at least 24 million out of the payroll, hopefully by the deadline, and guys like Lang, Kolzig, and Gonchar are all on the block...i read of a rumor going around where Gonch would go to Toronto, Nik Antropov and Aki Berg would go to Dallas, and two guys ive never heard of would come here....

I sure hope they don't give up Gonch..he's only one of the best Offensive Defensemen in the league

Maybe their next move should be getting a new goalie and some defensemen.

We've got two of the best young goalies in the league in Charpentier(if his hip holds up) and Ouellet...and Rastislav Stana too...

We do need D men tho...other than Witt and Gonchar, and Doig every other night...yikes...

Oops sorry El mudo I mean to put that the Rangers need a new goalie and defensemen. Dunham can make insane saves but would let in the stupid ones. Markkanean or how ever you spell it has good games and bad. One game he would have a shutout then the next he would let in about 5 goals.

Maybe Rangers can try to get Curtis Joseph from Detroit for Dunham but, I seriously doubt that Dunham would want to be a backup especially for a piece of shit team like the Redwings. (Avalanche Fan)

I dont know if the Wings would even want Dunham...Norm Maracle is one of the best backups in the leauge...on any other team he'd be starting...

And would you really want Joseph to be your goalie considering his playoff history?

Just looked on my Insider again...here are the lastest rumors for the Caps Firesale..

Olaf Kolzig- Reportedly the Caps are talking to Vancouver for a Cloutier/Kolzig deal, which would save the Caps about 4 mill

Peter Bondra- Interest from the Senators, Red Wings, Leafs, and Avalanche

Sergei Gonchar- Interest from the Leafs, Wings, and Avalanche....still the same deal i posted before with Dallas and Toronto being discussed

Good point about CUJO's playoff record but if the caps end up trading their main boys away they will turn out to be the new Pittsburgh Penguins, well Penguins still have Lemieux but I think he is out until next season.

Yeah...but theyve got to rebuild...their pay roll is way too high....and so is everyone elses in the NHL...the salary structure is so out of whack its insane....when Martin Lapointe is making 7 mill a year, then you have a problem...

That still doesn't excuse them for potentially giving up Gonchar...thats a guy you build a team around...

Wasnt Tampa Bay lookin to get rid of Khabibulin? Hes not having a tremendous season but hes a very good goalie nonetheless. I think he would do a better job than Dunham, Joseph, or Burke who have also been talked about in trade rumors.

Bad move on the rangers part. Another huge salary player. Sure hes a high scorer but the rangers will never get the point.. They need a strong defense. Id rather the rangers win games 2-1, than lose 6-5

Yeah there a bunch of teams interested in him....he's due to make i think 6.5 next year, and i dont think Tampa can afford that...
