Who's your favorite Wrestling "Jobber"? The wrestlers that you know are going to lose but still root for them anyway.

Here are mine:
La Parka
Iron Mike Sharpe
Jim Powers
Special Delivery Jones
The Armstrongs (I think I saw them win one time)
Disco Inferno

I'm going to have to agree with you on Iron Mike Sharpe. Disco, I'm not sure. I never really was into his gimmick.

What? Remember the YMCA elbow, the Reverse figure 4 (he actually got it to work one time!!!), and the Chart-buster. He tried to invent all kind of moves that he used to introduce to the audience before the match started. That was the best part of his stick.

Iron Mike Sharpe is the best example of a "Jobber" there is. in the WWE today the jobber role really isn't the same...they try to sell all there guys as superstars...unlike the days of the squash match. Sharpe at least got a reaction from the fans...putting a steel plate in his forearm pads. good stuff. and thats why i think most wresting fans liked Sharpe though he very, very rarely won matches.

Vince McMahon, back in the day when he ran out of wrestlers for a show, he would put on a mask and call himself the "Masked Mamaluke", or some other lame name and take one for the company.

Now that I think about it, Disco wasn't so bad after all. Is it true that he's writing for TNA now? I mean I know he's managing Simon and Swinger, but I heard he was also part of the creative team.

Since he trained one of my indy friends (as well as Stevie Richards, Crowbar, and Nova), I'll go with Iron Mike as well. He's one of the few people you could have a running war of words with from the cheap seats; I've never heard anyone louder.

I always liked the "Unpredictable" Johnny Rodz, even though it was always quite predictable that he would lose every match.

Also the incredibly stout and juiced up "Quick Draw" Rick McGraw was a favorite.

How can anyone not mention Barry Horowitz?! I'm gonna actually admit I marked out when he won once. He still wrestles in Florida, I believe. I loved watching WCW Saturday Night just for the jobbers, like "Hole in One" Barry Darsow, The Gambler and Glacier during his "Psycho football coach" gimmick.

Pilots make the best approaches...

Sam Houston, man I wanted that kid to win so bad. I know they did give him a push in the NWA and he held a belt, but for the most part he was fodder for big guys.
The jobber that pissed me off was Jake "the milkman" Milliman. I don't know why, I just hated him.

Chief Jay Strong Bow and whoever they match him up with (you just knew they were going to lose but he had some nice gear)

Mike Sharpe is the undisputed king of the jobbers. And as he was my trainer, there may be some bias there, but Mike knew how to work a crowd better than most stars did.

Unfortunately, the Monday Night Wars kind of put an end to the classic days of the "jobber", and invented the "Jobber To The Stars" category in which the "Superstars" that were previously beating the Jobbers on the weekend shows were suddenly jobbers themeselves to the 5 or 6 bigger stars that the companies built themeselves on to fight each other.

This left the fine art of "Preliminary wrestlers" somewhat in the past. There are occasionally indy guys on Velocity or Heat, but it's not the same.

back in the day, the WWF used alot of wrestling school students as Jobbers, Mike Sharpe's included, when they came to an area for the monthly TV tapings. They would tape a month or mores episodes of Superstars, Raw and Challenge at one shot. In these days of instant internet results, that doesn't fly anymore.

It's a shame too, because alot of young guys starting out (myself included) learned more being jobbers for those weekend shows, than alot of todays up and coming indy guys learn in years.

If anyone is a wrestling tape completeist, if you look back at tapes from 94-96 you will see Nova, Tony Devito ( who went on to ECW and ROH), Nj Indy mainstay Ace Darling, and a much younger, and in better shape Cannon all jobbing on those shows wrestling under our real names.

Other Honorable mentions in the Jobber Category:

Barry Hardy and Dwayne Gill
Barry Horowitz
Barry "O" (lots of jobbers named Barry for some reason)
Steve Lombardi AKA the Brooklyn Brawler.

Sharpe was the best. I personally loved all of the grunts and groans that guy gave.

Since he trained one of my indy friends (as well as Stevie Richards, Crowbar, and Nova), I'll go with Iron Mike as well.

Who do you know on the indy scene? Anyone I've heard of? (You can PM me if you don't want to say it out loud here).

Funny you should mention that, Cannon... I actually recall seeing you, Tony, and Ace on WWF's TV shows way back when (in fact, when I first saw you at a UWC show, I thought "That guy looks vaguely familiar...").

The first pro wrestler I ever met (years & YEARS ago) was a prelim wrestler by the name of Gary Starr, who was working at a Wee Three Records outside of Harrisburg, PA; when I purchased a copy of the first wrestling album, he signed the cover. I just thought it was cool meeting a real live wrestler (I was 9, give me a break).

i've known of him, but i never saw a match involving the goon and i watched superstars every saturday when i was younger. Does anyone know what years he was around for?

La Parka is actually one of my favorite wrestlers overall, let alone my favorite guy who became a jobber.
Brakus was pretty funny in WWF, because even though i was so young when he was around, I could even tell the fed screwed up with him.
