Today, many schools were closed because it was too cold. how fucking ridiculous is this? Amazing, i and millions of other people were able to make it to work granted i had to wear 2 layers of clothes on my walk to the train station.

OK; I agree a bit on the pussification factor, but there is often reasons the school has no choice.

One year we got hit so bad the school was closed for five days, meaning nine days out.

Why?

If the town can't clear the sidewalks to a certain point, the leagl powers that be [mayor? police?] won't take the risk of people trying to walk to school getting hit. Simple as that. If, like this snow, where it can be so cold nothing works, if they opened them, and a kid was walking in a street because the sidewalk wasn't clear, whatever...

You know the rest, accident happens, and everyone in the world gets sued. And a kid dying in a town in these circumstances? That suit will necesarily involve many millions of dollars, besides the ramifications of having a kid killed in your town.

i'm kind divided on the issue. they cancelled schools left and right last night in my area. the pre-emptive approach is pretty pussy. as i understand it, schools were closed b/c it was "too cold."

from 3rd grade until junior year of hs, i had to walk my ass 1/2 mile to grade school and 1 mile to jr/ hs. i can vividly remember breathing through frozen snot and the sensation of my nose thawing out.

well, lets not like this was a pass for the little fuckers. have fun sweating balls in late june.
