I broke my ankle - Plates and Pins today

Yep, Tuesday night on the beach with Dreamweaver's dog. I was running backwards, started falling and my toe got stuck in the sand. My body kept going back while my foot stayed in the same place, it went up under me as I went down and "POP . . . POP . . . SNNNNNNNAP!!" I'll spare you the horror show of ER, Orthopaedics, bitchy radiologists, insurance screw-ups, cunty receptionists, and cut right to the chase. Broken in three places: the fibula got a clean break about 3-4 inches above the ankle, and the tibea got two breaks down in the ankle joint. The doc's putting a plate on the fibula break, screwing the two bones back together because they spread, and pins in the ankle joint to get that all back together. Gonna be under the knife for about two hours, hopefully they'll be some kind of complication and I'll end up with 1 bionic ankle so I can hop real high.

i had my thumb cut off at work, they reattached it and 7 surgeries later they put in a titanium plate, look at it this way, you will be able to set off alarms at the airport. good luck with your surgery. try not to vomit when the anesthesia wears off.

Here's the big update:
4 hrs of surgery
3 screws, 1 to hold the tib and fib together, and 1 each going up from my ankle into each leg bone.
1 plate on my fib holding it together.
I'll even give you pics of the incisions, how's that?

It's bigger than it looks there, it's about 5 inches long and goes from just above the ball of my ankle to near my instep. The next one is the motherfucker though.

Well, for those keeping score, I got my cast off yesterday and the X-rays showed everything healed nicely. The doc gave me an aircast and told me to stay on crutches for another 2 weeks, but that ain't gonna happen. I'm gonna start PT next week and I get the screws out in about 3 months. On a side note, anyone know if I can scan X-rays? Will they show up? I've got an idea for a sig, but I need my x-rays to do it.
