Does anyone remember this movie? Honestly when I was a kid I wanted to be Alex Rogan.

I sent letters out to some people that used to be associated with the production company, but haven't gotten any responses. I want to redo the screenplay and make a really cool remake..

"Greating Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Zur and the Konan Amanda. Get ready..prepare for blastoff!"

Plot: This adventure saga mixes an update of the old system of "recruiting" sailors by shanghai with the fantasy of saving the universe by being a star at computer games. It turns out that one particular arcade game is really a test, put on earth by very advanced beings from another planet, to find someone good enough to be "The Last Starfighter." And the only one to meet that challenge is Alex, who lives in a trailer park with his mother and younger brother, and who has just found out that he did not get the loan he needed for college.

Centauri (played with magnificent panache by Robert Preston) is the outer-space recruiter who takes Alex to the Starfighter deployment center on his planet and explains that Alex is the only one left who has the skill to be the Last Starfighter. Alex refuses, and is on his way back to Earth when all of the other Starfighters are destroyed by the evil Ko-Dan. When the bad guys come after him because they know he is the last remaining threat to them, he agrees to stay and fight.

Didn't we used to have a jet by that name?
Like a F-105 or something?
I think I onced had a model of one with a chrome-like finish on all the exterior surfaces.
I seem to recall it was a high altitude supersonic fighter with short stubby wings on it.

this was the first movie I ever rented.

I love how the whole trailer park gets together to watch him play the game because there's nothing else to do.

what state was that set in?

Wasn't this Robert Preston's last film role? He was so good.

see the article below...

"Starlite, Starbrite" trailer park and general store was actually filmed in a abandoned trailer park and small rural store called "Rio" located in Canyon Country South California.

it also has a lot of stuff on 80s movies that i found cool like errors, former casting choices...former working titles of movies...etc

No, but I think it's one of those things where an actor dies in a movie and everyone thinks they died in real life but they really just can't get any more work. Like Brandon Lee, Vic Morrow and the lady who plays Tony Soprano's mom.

Jon I remember when the game came out and I had a HELL of a time trying to find that video game. I went to multiple arcades and could not find it for the life of me.
Oh well.....

And Jeff? For it's time the special effects were OUTSTANDING!

Berkeley Breathed: Yes, thank you, but I don't draw Far Side. I draw Calvin and Hobbes.

I was a fan of this movie as well and just last month one of the cable pay channels was airing it. I watched it for the first time in years and I was surprised how cartoonish the graphics were, but still loved it nonetheless. I was a fan of the girl who played Maggie, Catherine Mary Stewart.

Was it? I do remember being impressed.

Great flick; and it's built quite a little cult following. I didn't know it was a real game; I always thought it was Defender; which for a 2-D game I thought was some awesome shit.

Because you are looking for a game that didn't exist. Atari 2600 only. for more info (http://www.paulbunyan.net/users/wayland/arcade/laststar.html#arcade)
