I picked up the "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Swingers" a second time for the additional extras and improved transfer. I have a copy of the out-of-print Criterion version "This is Spinal Tap", but I still picked up the MGM version because of the in-character commentary and some additional deleted scenes.

Most recently, I picked up the Flaming Lips CD "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots" for a second time, because they included a DVD-Audio remix of the album using Dolby Digital 5.1 and there are tons of video and audio extras.

I bought Boiler Room twice as well as Rounders. My sister uses my DVD's then does not put them away and they get scratched. Stupid Bitch. Anyway I now have a DVD Burner to copy all my DVD's. I take the original and put it in a blank CD case and leave it on my bookshelf. I then take the copy and put it in the DVD case. That way, if anyone borrows it and scartches it, I do not care cause I still have the original.

Guilty. Pulp Fiction comes to mind - I had to own the special edition. If I could have, I would have nabbed the Critereon SPINAL TAP.

However, what's worse, is that sometimes I am so loopy that I own some DVDs already before I actually buy them a second time - no excuse except my need to buy things. The flip side has happened where I have not purchased something because I was sure I owned it already, and then I learn later that I didn't. DOH! I still don't own Fargo!

"Highway 61 Revisited," on SACD (Super Audio Cd), because I won a SACD player and needed a disc.
Speaking of SACD and DVD audio, which format is better.

I already have Weezer's Blue Album and plan to pick up the Blue Album Deluxe Edition when it comes out.

Other then that, I've never needed to pick up a CD or DVD more then once.

I'm sorry I looked this up on Amazon AND www dot IMDB and no info on this CD or DVD. When was it released?

I am the absolute worst.

I'm that guy. The format guy. The guy who bought the Go Video Dual 4 Head VCR Dubbing Deck when it was $600, and now maybe $60. And I had laserdiscs; they looked like a cd-rom, but as big as an old vinyl album; but hey, those lasers are still some of the only places to find some stuff [read; George Lucas] in the digital domain.

So for the first two Alien movies I had

the VHS
the Laserdisc
the DVD
the Special Edition DVD from the frist Box set

and what did I get for Xmas? The Alien Quadrilogy Box Set.

And at one time; I counted six different versions of the Pink Floyd "Dark Side of the Moon" CD in my collection. From different box Sets, an import, the MFSL Edition, the 25th Anniversary re-release...

[Edit: I've since gone into a less Impulsive spending pattern the last few years. Meaning, I used to never Rent a DVD. I bought it. Looking back I couldn't imagine why someone would rent it. Now I can't imagine buying a DVD unless I know I'm gonna be watching it quite a few times. Meaning I used to have the Cusack "High Fidelity" -sized Home Album + CD + DVD + Laserdisc + book collection; until I realized the futility of it, the sheer fucking bulk of it [320 boxes of books when I moved], and then saw my penis wasn't small, so I left the 'Dig my Cool Stuff' phase; although, I must admit, I love looking through someone's excellent collection...]

Many, many times.

The most egregious example is probably Elvis Costello's TRUST album. I had it on vinyl, bought the cd when I got a cd player, then got the Ryko re-release with the bonus tracks, then recently got the Rhino 2-disc version. And that's not counting copies I've bought for friends.

Seriously, why buy any dvd that's not a souped-up special edition or a cd without bonus tracks anymore? It's just going to get re-released later.

I was in a record store this week and saw that Ringo Starr's latest album - from early 2003 - was re-released - in late 2003 - with an additional disc. Luckily no one needs a Ringo Starr album anymore, so nobody got hurt.

And who doesn't love the "box set of all our albums, plus a new bonus disc so that all our fans who already have the albums have to buy them again" thing? (Yes, I'm talking to you, Camper Van Beethoven.)

i had to buy another Joshua Tree cause the 1st one got skips. Same thing with Grand Funk's 'Caught In The Act'... I bought the Joshua Tree over one year ago and haven't opened it yet.

as far as i can recall, i've only done this at the used cd store. if i see a great cd that i already own and love for cheap at the used place, i'll pick it up. i can't help myself. i've done this many times. i usually just end up giving them to friends that don't already have them.

I currently own 3 vinyl copies of BLACK MARKET CLASH. One that was my first Clash record that I ever bought but got warped by the sun but I couldn't throw it away - a second one to replace it - and a third one from Enland, that I thought was different, but wasn't. I do not own the CD version - which reminds me, I should.

I have the second Spinal Tap, but would buy the Criterion if I ever saw it for sale.

Considered picking up the second edition of Boogie Nights, but never did.

I also have the same 3 copies of Star Wars on VHS (The
original was a special widescreen boxed set that came with
a 4th "making of" tape) and will end up with the DVD

Otherwise. I have purchased second copies of DVDs when
they have double dipped. I have sold the original DVD on
eBay but kept the Criterion Collection "This is Spinal Tap"
because it's a Criterion DVD with a great commentary that
wasn't on the new one. But I had to have the new one as
well.

I have the Ultimate Edition of T2 and since it's called
Ultimate, I ignored the 3rd dip with the "Extreme" edition.
Come on! Extreme isn't better than Ultimate, Ultimate is
by definition, the best!

I have both versions of the two Lord of the Rings films, But
they are very different.
