welcome to my sociology experiment:

while doing some laundry in the basement, i noticed a big, fat fly in the bottom of a bucket. the fly was so deep into the web, he had no shot of getting out.

i thought to myself, "i am in a position to allow this thing to live. i am dictating it's destiny." so, i take a spackle knife, and scoop the lil guy out. then i noticed the spider had come along also.

now i rethink the situation, and at this point the fly's wing are still stuck in the web, but legs are free. "if i free the fly, the spider, more than likely will not eat again." so one of them must die, for the other to live. so i ask you, who lives and why?

if i was to save the fly i would have disrupted nature. Nature took that fly on a course to the web, which means nature fed that spider. if i take away nature's feed, i disrupted nature. whether i am part of nature or not. its like a snake is gonna eat this mouse, and we go and move the mouse. If nature would have wanted that fly to live, it woulda avoided the web.

update on the two: as of 3am last night, the spider was actively building a web around the fly. funny thing, the spider is the size of 3 pin heads, while the fly was a small horse fly.

the fly had a fighting chance; if it fought enough, it probably could have freed it's wings. but the spider could have also bitten it a couple of times, though i saw it struggle a couple of times.

i check today, and there is a restocked shelf of detergents, dryer sheets, bleach, etc... no evidence of either. i guess that is life.
