being inspired by the hankerchief thread i started thinking about my grandfather (he still alive) along with using handkerchiefs he also smoked pipes and had a pocket watch. i'd rock the pocket watch but i usualy only wear jeans i think they go better with slacks. but after he had a big heart attack he gave up pipe smoking and gave me a bag with all his pipes. it seems like a lost art to me and the tobacco smells a hell of alot better than cigarettes. so i think i'm going to try it out.

my only problem with it is there is too much "stuff" involved. you have to carry your pipe which isn't exactly compact, then you have the pouch of tobacco not to mention the little cleaner things.

My neighbor died a few years ago. He was really old and smoked pipes everyday. I remember since I was little how good it would smell. He would stand in his driveway and smoke it.
I love that smell.

pipes. you gotta be fuckin kidding me. a pipe is used to send water from the source to the sink, and other such uses. Blunts and bongs were made for smokign weed. Ciggarettes and Cigars are made for smoking tobacco.

that should be it, pipes just make things confusing. it is show, is it tobacco, is it weed.

pipe smoking is for old men. but just like cigars, i'm sure it will make a come back, but probably not. it's really only cool if you're floating down a river on a raft.

I smoked a pipe when I was a kid. Some Twain there, some looking up to my elders there. Still have a meerschaum pipe in my desk at work from the coming-back-from-Reno show four years ago.

I've been thinking of giving this old school method a try.

I'm not a smoker, outside of the occasional Cigar, but something seems extremely relaxing about sitting outside on a park bench smoking a pipe.

Anyone else smoke an old school Tobacco Pipe?

I haven't done it in years, but pipe smoking is fantastic. Grab some old vanilla cherry tobacco, relax out on the back porch (in some warm/cool rainy weather or a breezy august day) and ponder about life.

Good medicine that can't be fulfilled by cigarettes or a cigar.

I was a serious pipe smoker for awhile but now only smoke one occasionally.

I have a wide variety of pipes in my collection and I love trying the different flavored tobaccos.

Forgot all about that one. It was so you could play being MacArthur or something.....

There was a time when "Chesty" Puller inspired a fad in the Marine Corps to smoke pipes. Lots of officers were into them and would have the pipe, pouch and tools. Like we'd go fishing and a lot of times if the guy didn't have the pipe lit, he'd keep it clenched between his teeth, but upside down...

That's funny. What do you smoke in these things? I pickd up some pistachio, and an indian blend....

Do not smoke a pipe around any electronics that you care about. The smoke is very thick and just coats and destroys electronics. My husband smoked a pipe for a while and it killed a computer. The motherboard was just coated.

Well, that certainly sounds like the ideal thing to be inhaling into one's body.

When I was about 17 (I'm 59 now) I lost my job. I had just started smoking my mom told me she wouldn't give me a penny for cigarettes so I used the end of my money to buy a Dr Garbo pipe and a pouch of Cherry Blend. I've never smoked cigarettes again just my pipe and an occasional cigar

Pipe smoking is relaxing. Its very soothing to go through the whole process of filling, tapping, filling, tapping, filling the bowl then the whole lighting exercise. Can't smoke too fast or it gets bitter, too slow it goes out or you have spit problems.

Stanwell and Dunhill make some beautiful pipes. As for tobacco, enjoy sweek killarney

You should see what it does to walls and furniture. When we repainted I had to use TSP Trisodium phosphate) to get all the layers of tobacco smoke buildup off the walls. It took us days. The smell was horrific. There were spots that wouldn't even come up and the stain keep bleeding through the paint. The people at the paint center suggested we just re-sheet rock the walls. That would have been easier except for the fact my walls are plaster not sheet rock.
Smoke outside people!
