According to ThinkSecret (http://www.thinksecret.com/news/mwsf04apple.html):

Reliable sources inside and outside of Apple have confirmed Apple will announce the new pocket-size iPods in a number of capacities and in various colors, including stripes. Capacities will be 2 and 4GB -- meaning users could store some 400 and 800 songs, respectively. Prices will start at around $100US, Think Secret has learned. It is not known if the new product line will be available immediately after introduction.

It is also expected that current iPod models will be revamped to add body colors as well.

I dunno, I'm almost tempted to upgrade my ipod just for a new color or pattern (and bigger drive)

$100 iPod with 400 songs would be sweet. I'd pick one up! I assume it would work like the current iPod and work with iTunes.

When you sync with iTunes does your whole library sync or can you select which songs/playlists sync?

Wow, thats actually a really good deal considering you pay almost $200 for a 256 meg flash based player now.

A 2gb hard drive based player for $100 sounds pretty damn good to me.

I'm not sure how it works with iTunes, but I use MusicMatch and in MM you can select what you would like to sync up into the iPod.

There's a way to pick using the checkboxes on iTunes. And MM sucks :p

Apple announced the Mini Ipods today at Macworld Mini Ipod (http://www.apple.com/ipodmini/)

$249 for 4 gigs...and you can get a 10 gig for $300.

Idiots.

Actually, they eliminated the 10 gig model and replaced it with a 15 gig model. So its $249 for 4 gigs, and $300 for 15 gigs.

Bigger idiots.

They apparently think its more important to make the iPod smaller than cheaper. Because the iPod is such a behemoth to begin with.

But, then again, Apple values style over price, so this isn't really surprising.

I've been an Apple supporter and customer as far back as I can remember... and this I simply don't get.

It still wouldn't make sense though... The price ratios are just too ridiculously disproportionate.

Keep up with the thread. You can replace them.

And they look cool and all but the $50 is nothing. People thought they were coming at $100. Pretty fucked up.

I watched Jobs' presentation of the minipod and it doesn't look like a 2gig model is coming out any time soon. The markup on electronics usually isn't very high, so it looks like it's reasonably priced. Still, it's nowhere near the $100 2gig model that was rumored about.

I like the color idea. but I wouldn't pay $250 for 4 gigs when I can get 15 for an extra $50. And how much smaller is it? .4 inches less wide, .5 inches less tall and .12 inches less thick. Who cares? the original was pretty damn small.

The Mini comes with a USB 2 cable, while the regular iPods don't.

I was going to pick one up around $100 for 2 gigs, maybe $150 or so for 4 gig, but they just lost my buisness. The silver one looked good.
