I was watching one of the I Love The 80's episodes a few months back and saw and reconnected with these lovely stickers. I loved these as a kid and in my Junior High years. I had a shitload but as the dumb kids we were, we stuck them everywhere and on our Trapper Keepers and eventually they disappeared from existence.

I looked around my Dad's and went through my old stuff loking for traces of them but no luck. I even remember a few years back wanting to reconnect with them and looking online for just some of the artwork from the stickers and NO DICE!

Until about two months ago!

After seing the bit on VH1 I hunted some down on eBay and found two different websites on them. I even found myself wanting to scratch my screen and sniff.

Trend Stinky Stickers (http://www.homestead.com/stinkystickers/stinky1982.html)

Bubbledog's Trend Sticker Collection (http://www.bubbledog.com/sns/trend.html)

The funny thing is that when I started bidding and buying them again and eventually getting them, the Matte variety of them still smell. Quite potent I must add. The grass one burnt my nose a bit and when I got the oil one the whole envelope smelled like motor oil. It amazes me how after 20 years they still stink.

Since my record collecting has pretty much come to a standstill these things have been a good replacement for a new hobby for me. These are going to be a bitch to get them all but it should be fun.

I remember having a book in the early 70's and every page had something on it that was scratch and sniff. Like there was a picture of cookies (smelled like gingerbread) and a witch (that smelled like pepper.)

It's not censorship because people can't come here and post/say whatever they want in the first place.

I still have all of mine along with all my shinies, pearlies, oilies, fuzzies, hearts, stars, animals, unicorns, and everything else I had listed in the table of contents in my stickerbook.

I had winnie the pooh scratch and sniff (there was honeysuckle in the woods) and big bird scratch and sniff (he had strawberry scented shampoo!)

They all smelled the same after a while-- like stale patchouli oil...

If you're collecting scratch-n-sniff stickers, it would probably be cool to track down an "Odorama" card, which were handed out before screenings of John Waters' Polyester. At various points during the film, the viewer is shown flashing numbers which corresponded to various unpleasant scents on the card. You could probably find one on eBay for a few bucks.

the table of contents in my stickerbook.
disturbing.

And I don't think I have my old stickerbook.

Hmmm. Since everything else is making a come back these days, we should rerelease old stickers and make mad cash. :)

I am acutally surprised that Trend hasn't rereleased the old style and even new stickers in the vein of the old style. Their newer stickers (1990 - present) stink. The quality is just poor. There are few on eBay still having the whole unopened packages up for sale but it gets to be a bit pricy at times. Especially this one dickweed selling his old Collector's Kit for $80. When I first started re-researching and buying these again that set was only going for around $45. Bastards.
