I have no Christmas spirit

I have no Christmas spirit...is there something wrong with me? I remember the days when I was real little...and I had some form of childhood innocence...long before high school and college applications and all of that bullshit...I remember the days that Christmas mattered....Now it doesn't matter...all it is to people is a day to go find the best bargain and trample someone over something as stupid as a DVD player....People forget that the reason we really celebrate Christmas is to celebrate one of the greatest events to ever occur in history...the birth of Jesus Christ...and the fact that people have neglected the true meaning of Christmas for such bullshit really pisses me off and has taken my holiday spirit away...

Dammit they're gonna take my wisdom away!!!!

what the fuck ever man. try being born on christmas day. it sucks, trust me i know. jesus christ was just a charming guy. and he probabaly wasnt even born on dec 25th. but just the idea of him is enough to fuck up MY birthday for 24 years running.

so consider the feelings of others before you go spouting off at the mouth about what a great guy jesus was. its kind of a sore subject for me.

Cheer up, dude. You always had the Christmas spirit, you just need to get it back. Yes we do lose the innocence as we get older, but that doesn't mean you can't still act like a child at Christmas. Get up early, tear open your presents, enjoy them and your family and thank God for this special day.

If that don't cheer ya up, well........................

I completely agree on just about everything here; and some of the things Ron and Fez discussed last couple of nights. For those who couldn't listen, a discussion on the materialism of gift giving for adults, dislike of Secret Santa's etc. They also brought up how crime shoots up, or at least the horrific stealing of gifts that you hear about every year. It inded with J-Dubs, who works at a record store, describing all the theft.

So, I hear ya.

I guess it's a Blake-type thing, Innocence vs. Experience. Tonight Ron described, awesomely, how his family celebrated christmas such that there was nothing on the 24th, and when they woke on the 25th, the house had been utterly transformed.
He remarked about going to others houses well before christmas, seeing presents, and being like, huh?

Our family was similar; the gifts didnt come out until the Eve, and I have eidetic, like-it-was-now memories of a feeling of otherworldly Joy, that had absolutely nothing to do with what might be under the tree. The vibe was enough. The lights, the smell; that the house could be a place of wonder...

Well What to do today?? In 2003 to get some spirit? My solution given to many a student or friend: do something worthwhile.

Meaning: Let's assume I have absolutely Zero christmas spirit. I want nothing to do with it. Fine. I will do nothing. But while I am doing nothing, I take another load of food to my local food bank. I go to flea markets, and when I see someone unloading a bunch of blankets for $5, I buy them, and take them to shelters. Perhaps it sounds 'trite' and feel-good, and I thought it did, but seeing some people who are there not to drop off stuff, but who come there for Simple Food.

A very different Spirit enters entirely. It's quite different from this 'Christmas spirit.'

Why do I do this? Because I'm Selfish.
