i was wondering how many people on the board ski or snowboard or would be willing to try. its something that sounds like it might be cool to do as a board thing some saturday or sunday if enough people are into it. group rates at ski places are usually pretty cheap and mountain creak has hooked it up at their place this year with parks and a pipe and extra runs. anyone be interested?

I was on the varsity ski team in college, but since then I've mostly been snowboarding. I'm totally in.

Is that what they renamed Vernon Valley/Great Gorge in NJ? I think I remember going there like 20 years ago.

Mountain Creek is what they renamed Action Park, I've heard they built some cool pipes there for a jersey mountain. I'm going to Steamboat in February out in Colorado I'm pretty fuckin excited for that. As far as a trip here somebody let me know, I'd definatly try and see if I could make it.

Action Park...wow! I hadn't even thought about that place in years!!
I haven't skiied in a while, and last time I was on a board was about 3 years ago. It would be fun to have another go at it. I did my boarding at Squaw, and that was fantastic, especially for a beginner. Out west it's generally much better, and the crash landings more predictably softer...at least most of the time.:)

I'm about to turn it up a notch!

honestly, parks are pretty boring. waiting in line for a hit is gay. ice on the landing is even worse. and you're lucky if they cut the pipe that day. otherwise you get 2 or 3 good lines. fuck that, if i'm paying $50, i'm using the whole mountain.
if you have a group, going down a long trail with plenty of stops for beginners to catch up are always good. plus, if it's a good day, just hop of the trail and make a nice tree run.

I enjoy doing what not. It can be fun and quite entertaining while challenging and thought-provoking all the while.
Yet another witless statement.
Thank you.

with a decent size group its like 30 bucks, and they have 5 parks, hit up the whole thing and 1 park once, it was just a suggestion

i hear you snoogs, i'm just going by past experiences with groups of people of differing skill levels. parks are fun, but the good snow turns to shit quick b/c of the traffic in parks.
plus i'm voting for hunter. there's 3 other mtns in the region, and sort of a cool nightlife in downtown hunter.
if people were down for 6-9 hr car rides, a weekend in vt would rock so hard. that's as good as it gets on the east coast.

i thought of all that, but money was an issue, and location. hunter isnt bad, but for a day board event, how many people will have the energy to go out after. plus i picked mountain creek cause it had the most parks, hunter has 1 i think if that, and most other shit to do during the day. but when the time comes, if enough people are into it, we can do a vote on location or something

1. fuck maine. too cold, too far, and too stupid (the people/ nightlife sucks)
2. northern vt is pretty nice, and still half the time to maine. smuggs is nice, killington is the bomb, but jay's peak doesn't allow boarders.
this is what a loser i am. fuck hot & sunny for a spring break, i'm going to burlington! it was pretty cheap and the snow was a little slushy, but all out fun.

Killington is overcrowded, overcommercialized, and generally has grown suckier and suckier in the past ten years. Its "nightlife" consists of drunk college kids. Woo hoo. Jay Peak and Mad River Glen were always my favorites, but no, you can't snowboard at them.
My favorite place in VT for snowboarding is Sugarbush; they've got my favorite glades trails there and the area has generally much more character than the area around Killington. Plus there's a Miguel's Stowe Away there :)
Portland, ME is actually a great town. It has great food (Fore Street, one of the top restaurants in the country), fun bars (like Gritty's alehouse), and is close to great outlet shopping in Freeport :)

I love skiing. I'm going around Christmas. WooHoo.
I grew up about a 30-40 min. drive from several different mountains, and as kids we would literally say, " Mom? Dad? Our homework is done, and nothing good is on TV. Can we go skiing? "
So, we would drive up and have the best time. NIGHT-Skiing was the Greatest. It was really inexpensive too - but that Mountain closed the skiing down, and became a tacky Theme Park.
( I know, because I remember singing equally tacky Waterslide Jingles for their Radio ads. Ha! Ugh.. )
....So, YEAH. SKIING!... so much fun...
I don't snowboard, but will try it.
Sounds like a plan. Mountain Creek is much closer than Vermont, so this Ski - SnowBoarding trip could easily be a done in a day.

for the record, i hate mail. my buddy was stationed in portland and i thought the town was balls and shriveled, cold balls at that. but i'm typically a stick in the mud and like the "college nite life".
i'm just curious toocute, do you have parabolic (sp?) skis?

i don't know about that. that's why i asked tocute about her skis. never in my life have i skied. a few years ago they redesigned skis and all of a sudden, you saw skiers in the pipe doing bigger and sicker tricks.
snowboarding has become humdrum and lost it's heat to skiing, plus the people who ski stopped with the day-glo, but not entirely.
i'm considering switching, but then again i need time to go.

Never skiied [skied?]. Ever.
How weak is that? I can handle a skateboard; not on a half-pipe but I can get around, but skiing and ice skating were things this 6 foot 5 dude could not do. No balance on them whatsoever. Zero.
Maybe it's the sense of balance, because I couldnt, for the fucking life of me, hold a headstand or handstand. I had the strength, ya know, you get spotted, up you go, and they let go, and I just lose it and plop. Sucked.
Thank christ for Lacrosse. It's like hockey for the ice-challenged.

I live about 20 minutes from a mountain, but I've never been there. I'm pretty sure I'm going there in a few weeks.
Never been skiing either.

Yes, I bought a pair of K2s when they were first getting big, maybe around 1996, but I haven't skiied much since then. I don't even know where my skis are; in a closet at my mom's I think. I bought a snowboard in 1997; needless to say that's kind of outdated too. The past 4 years since I moved back from Cali, I haven't really skiied much outside of a couple of long trips a year so I've just been renting. You get the newest stuff that way, anyhow.
If you haven't tried them yet, you really need to. I like to go really short on them though, like 150-160s. Don't try to get your regular length of ski (I had 180s for slalom and 195s for GS) because it will be way cumbersome.
