Last night, skidmark and I went out to dinner. There was a 20-25 minute wait so we went to the bar. I ordered a glass of wine, he ordered a beer. Since he was paying for dinner, I paid the bar tab. I gave the bartender a $20. This is the change I got:

One $5 bill
One $1 bill
Two (not one, but TWO) $2 bills
One Sacagawea Dollar coin
One Kennedy half dollar coin.

Two dollar bills? Dollar coins? A half dollar? I know it's all legal tender, but still. Why stick me with it?

Hence, I used that change for a tip!

Thats actually pretty cool how you got the change. I would love to get that once in a while.

Everytime I go to the bank, I always ask for the Dollar coins and the Two Dollar Bill. They make for great tips and tolls and for strange looks when received.

Why the Dollar coin never caught on is beyond me. Is it because of the confusion with the quarter? The tendency to always blow your change and before you know it you're broke? Coin seems to work well in other countries, why not here?

As a coin collector, I LOVE these limited edition and brief showings of legal tender!

Not that I think they'll really be worth much, it's just cool to see the money change.

For instance, nickels haven't changed for decades. We had the Buffalo before it, the V nickel before that if memory serves. But the point is that these coins stick around for decades.

So to see a new dollar coin, a reprint of the 2 dollar bill or the change of the reverse of the Washington quarter is big news in coins.

The most recent printing of 2 dollar bills was the first one since sometime in the 1970's, I believe. (early 80's maybe?) Oh, and I'm a fan of the state quarters- I've got at least one of all of them so far.
