Who locks the most threads? [Archive] - RonFez.net Messageboard

Perhaps it's the time of day I'm usually on here, but I notice more threads locked by some mods/admins than other mods/admins. I'm not saying I feel they were locked unneccesarily, just locked. Do you guys keep a tally of who does what? Is there (gasp) a quota??? Are there rewards at the end of the year for most locking mod? most warnings issued? most vacations booked? I dont believe I myself have ever had a thread locked, but I'm just wondering. Feel free to participate in this poll even if youre not a mod/admin.
Ok, I just realized I cant include all of em (only 10 spots for 13 mods), so I'm gonna take the big guys Jeff, Gvac and Carter off, thus including only the "lesser" mods.

While I still have some sand left in my vagina, I will make this point.

I am not upset about the fact that the staff chooses to stop fights and keep stuff like out and out racism and name calling off the board. I like those rules.

I am upset about the SELECTIVE enforcement of these rules, and how differently judgement is metered out to people. And I'm not even going back to the classic "untouchable posters" argument. That has been beaten to death and it is obvious that nothing will be done about it, so we just have to work around it.

What was a small disagreement yesterday is deemed a lockable offense the next. Pick a fucking set of guidlines and stick with it.

I am upset about the SELECTIVE enforcement of these rules, and how differently judgement is metered out to people. And I'm not even going back to the classic "untouchable posters" argument. That has been beaten to death and it is obvious that nothing will be done about it, so we just have to work around it.

What was a small disagreement yesterday is deemed a lockable offense the next. Pick a fucking set of guidlines and stick with it.

We're trying to. But we're only human. We're NOT on all the time, we don't always go into all the threads, so we miss stuff. That's usually how stuff escapes us. We're trying to keep things level and fair, and like I said, we'll have a new FAQ soon that will hopefully help clear a lot of things up.

That said, if you notice something that needs to be addressed, contact us. Simple. IM us or PM us or e-mail us...all of the mods have the contact info available. Posting gripes like the one above on specific threads or posts actually does us NO good and ties our hands half the time for doing something because it looks like we're picking one poster over another or cowtowing to another poster's specific demands. Just talk to us or ask us questions or point something out to us. We're not "out to get you." We make mistakes or miss things. We're trying.

If you'd rather just mope and gripe about it, well, that's your choice. Here are some options. Use them if you actually feel this strongly about things.

I believe we allowed a discussion on the use of the term. If anyone uses that term in a derogatory manner, I think it's fair to say that that is unacceptable

Not true. We have allowed discussions by males and females on these subjects. If the discussions get personal, we might step in. I know the thread you're talking about, Ed. I didn't see it, and I didn't get rid of it. However, it was a shock post on a pretty sensitive subject.

*No cursing

Not true. Cursing is allowed. I've never shut down or edited a thread for cursing, and I'm unaware of that ever happening.

*Every story MUST be true and list sources.

I don't know where you get this. I posted in a thread that no one is going to take poster's claims seriously if they don't provide sources to back up their claims. I definitely did not lock or delete that thread. I also locked a thread in which a poster posted a rumor about the future of Ron & Fez that he knew was false. It was specifically designed to feed people bad information. That was a judgement call on my part, but I stand by that one.

Anyone taking me too seriously has issues. I like to have fun here and raise pertinent points at the same time. My response to DM Moe was in fun.

However,
I know the thread you're talking about, Ed. I didn't see it, and I didn't get rid of it. However, it was a shock post on a pretty sensitive subject.

The thread you speak of WAS sensitive. It really happened to me, as gross and shocking as that may seem. If I can laugh about it, anyone can. My life is FULL of these shocking adventures and I find it amusing to share. Sometimes people get grossed out, sometimes they laugh, sometimes they ignore.
This board is awesome and I sure don't want to ruin it for other posters who want to talk about their poo or pee.

Well, like I said, part of the problem is that you'll tell your story, and then the rest of the thread is just people talking about or posting pictures about "shock posting" for the upteenth time. How many threads are we supposed to have like that?

I nominate having an "Ed's story time" thread and he can spew there all he wants. Then anyone going in there and complaining about "shock posting" is only doing it to themselves.

I pretty much like things the way they are.

I have only one small complaint, and that's for locking up a thread when the conversation diverts from the original topic.
Leave it alone, I say. If you don't like the direction of the conversation, then jump in and change it, start a new thread on the original topic or just post elsewhere and leave it alone.

My point is this; being a mod is not a power. It is a responsibility. The board is a fun place full of whacky zany people. Pleeeease understand that. Join the fun, and in the rare instance when you have to take a sanctioned action, do it understanding why youre doing it--not just "cuz i can".
You guys all have my utmost respect for taking the time to do what you do, I just dont think you need to do some of the things you do as often as you do do them.

Alright, granted, but mikey didn't actually "do" anything, he just explained his stance on those kinds of posts. This thread turned "serious", so he's probably just being careful. I guess it could be seen as helpful because then it might be more understandable why he do that crazy voodoo that he do.

Point taken, Chris. I took Ed's post more seriously than I should have. However, he brought up a few points that I felt, based on prior thread discussions and mod actions, warranted further discussion, so I addressed his points. I did not take any mod actions. If anything, I merely did my best to clarify mod position when it wasn't required.

I get jokes...sometimes.
