View Full Version : Best Buy Ad Circulars

Anyone else make a bee-line for the Sunday circulars to see what ridiculously low priced items Best Buy / Circut City / Target / or Comp USA have for sale??
It's become a sickness with me - I know there's nothing I really need or want, but I still go through and look, because you never know (!) what kind of INSANE deals they have cooked up!
It's a known fact in the retail world that many of htese big box sotres (Best Buy especially) will take many of these items (CDs and DVDs) as loss-leaders; hoping that once you are in the store, you will get more and more. Poor Suncoast video can't keep up with them - you can never find as good as deals there as you can from Best Buy or Circuit City.
I hate them...but I love them...it's horrible.

It's kinda obvious that I would post to this, because while looking for Parade Magazine I have to shuffle through hundreds of these. Most of the time I'll take out all the electronic ads and read through them. Then run a batch. Did you know you could get a DVD player for just $30 now????

I got a $30 KLH (Kodak) DVD player so I could watch fancy, futuristic DVD porn in my room, and it works just as well as the $100+ "better" one I have in the den.
Whatever.

My cheap-o "Apex" runs like a champ, even though the closest thing I have to fancy, futuristic DVD porn is Russ Meyer.

I have a top of the line Sony player that we got as a wedding present 4 years ago. We got a cheapo Apex one at Circuit City so we could have a second player in the bedroom. I ended up switching them, and the Apex became our main player because its more versatile and dependable than the Sony.

Maybe it's time to buy stock in Apex.
Actually I've heard good things about their products for years now.
I also pour through the paper trying to find circulars for Best Buy, Target, etc. But I don't for Circuit City. I just don't like that place.

A friend of mine who works in the film bid-ness turned me onto the Apex years ago as well; he travels all over, gobbling up other zone DVDs, and was praising what can be done with the Apex to play them.

That was another thing I forgot about. Some of the Apex models are easily hacked so that they are region-free and macrovision-free. Apex was also among the first to implement MP3 and photo-CD playback, so they have that going for them as well.

So, after being good after the holidays, and keeping any purchases to stuff I need (lamps, pillows, etc)., I see this week's Best Buy ad and today (Tuesday, the day the new stuff comes out), I go fucking nuts...

* Curb Your Enthusiasm (season one)
* Freddy vs. Jason
Eeeeesh!
What this was what a weak moment for me - I still haven't heard if my job will be extended. (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/81/Topic/34247/page/To_Contract_or_Not_To_Contract.htm) I have two weeks left on it, and they are still jerking me around.
So, instead of turning to food (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/81/Topic/35854/page/What_Diet__If_Any__Has_Worked_For_You_.htm)to make me feel better, since I am now 10 days into this Atkins Nightmare, I spent my lunchbreak, and like a chick, went shopping, whipping out my American Express Card (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/81/Topic/35694/page/What_s_in_Your_Wallet_.htm) and creating more debt.
Ugh.
I can't wait to get home and start watching them.

Circuit city every year has a liquidation sale on car audio stuff that is either discountinued or is being replaced by a newer model. stuff like stereos and amps are dirt cheap. i got 2 MTX 12 inch subwoofers for 37 bucks. BRAND NEW!!! They don't advertise the sale ever, but if you need car audio go for a look! best buy has a similar unadvertised sale but not as good.

No, The price goes back to $61.99 on the 19th so hurry up and get it.
I was planning on getting the first two films on Jan 6th (released separately with the same special features as the 9 disc set) but I saw it at Costco the day before Christmas for $20 off the already lowest price I had seen it before. I'm glad I did because the individual movies were $19.99 so I paid about the same price as I would have for Alien and Aliens, and I got the crappy Alien movies Plus 9th bonus disc free! Which is cool because David Fincher is a cool director despite Alien3 and Wynona Ryder looks really hot in the 4th film. The special edition of Alien3 isn't too bad.
I don't know how Costco can do it, but I guess Christmas sales were so good they brought back the $42 Alien Teratology back!

Oh man, I gotta go to costco before the 19th! I wasn't planning on going until sometime in Feb; I usually only go once a month... that kicks ass, thanks. I still haven't picked up the Indiana Jones set either, so I need to grab that... especially since last night we went to a special lecture and tour of the Petra exhibit at the AMNH... I am assuming that if I had the set and watched the extras, I'd have known that the temple in the last one was filmed in Petra and I wouldn't have felt like such an ass for not knowing that!

Best Buy is selling Once upon a Time in Mexico for $15.99. Nice price, but they are also selling all three films (El Mariachi: special edition, Desperado: special edition and Once upon a time in Mexico) for $25 That's a great price for 3 DVDs Now, before I run out and get it, Is OUATIMexico a good movie? should I even bother getting it? I might just pick up the two pack of El Mariachi: special edition, Desperado: special edition which is $15.99 by it self.

Fuck! Fuck! Fuckity! Fuck! Fuck!
I go to Best Buy today to get both "Lost in Translation" and "Ed Wood," which were both scheduled to come out today; they were in the Sunday circular.
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000VD04M.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
When I didn't see it I asked the dopey guy stocking the shelves, and he wonders if it's "
a television show?"
I really wanted to smack him.
So, when I showed him their own circular, he went and looked in the back, and then came back and gave some lame excuse how how the company pulled it at the last minute. Naturally I don't believe him, until (sure enough) I saw that Amazon.com has announced that "the studio is currently not producing this title on DVD." (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000VD04M/104-6460926-3327164?%5Fencoding=UTF8&coliid=I3G072YTPDS9US&colid=1RJCO37PZI20A)
Thank god I was able to pick up the complete first season of "What's Happening!!", which only reminded me how mean I was to our young friend, MojoPin, over his lil' "News Radio" crush last week.

I was reading up on Ed Wood yesterday. The DVD was recalled for unknown reasons. It's running $30-50 on ebay because many retailers did receive them and most were told to not put them out and send them back. You can try calling around to local stores to see if they have it.

I love Best Buy. They have nice deals on CDs quite a bit, and their "2 for $20" DVD sales are FANFUCKINGTASTIC.
My only complaint is that I find their game selection lacking. If it's not a fairly new title, they don't carry much in stock.

Yesterday during my weekly Tuesday trip to Best Buy (Universal Monsters DVDs!), I see a rather odd father and son combo.
The boy was about 17; tall, and bright yellow/orange hair. I actually recognized him because his mother is a friend of a friend of mine and I saw him at an Easter party a few weeks ago.
He was with his dad, who is divorced from the mom. He is also tall, but with a long, grey pony tail, with half of it streaked blue. he was wearing very colorful pants and a shirt and vest. Even if he wasn't with his son, I would have more than likely figured out that it was none other than Arlington resident, the real life Dr. Hunter 'Patch' Adams.
http://www.therealpatchadams.com/patchsmall.jpg
I haven't seen the movie (I heard that the real Patch hated it), but I've seen this guy about two or three times in the last 5 years, all within the same area of Falls Church/Arlington, near 7 Corners. One day I should say, "Hi!"
Always good to know I'm not the only psycho who runs to Best Buy on Tuesdays!
