Theres this fleeting month in the year that these seem to be available. When it comes, I buy them by the boatload, even though they can cost as much as .99 each. You have to wait till they are mushy, or else its like a mouth full of Alum. Oh my, are they good. No pitts, no bullshit. Yum

They are small, about the size of a grape. They have a very strong, distinctive flavor (or so i've been told). We had a tree in our yard growing up, and our dog used to love to eat them. I didn't think any humans actually did.

you are thinking of something else - they are larger than a grape - not quite as big as a tennis ball but close.

They're very sweet, almost syrupy and refreshing.

They are about the size of a tomato.

The fruit of the native persimmon is round or oval, resembling some plum varieties. . The fruit color is usually orange, ranging to black, and the skin usually has a heavy waxy bloom. Fruit size is quite variable, ranging from 1/2 inch diameter to 1 1/2 to 2 inches in the better varieties or selections.

We had the native American Variety in our yard, I guess. Plus everything grew small in our yard--apples, pears, peaches all less than half the size you would buy at the supermarket.

They are best when they are mushy. What I do is clean them and eat it skin and all, because when they are mushy, its messy to cut apart. Theres no pit or seeds to worry about so you can just dive right in. Oh, they are on sale in Shoprite for 3 for 1.99 this week.
