I just saw JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK
Well I guess I am probably alone in my opinion but I was VERY dissapointed in this movie.
First let me say... I am as big of a Kevin Smith Fan as the next guy... I own all the movies, I can quote them all, and have been anxiously awaiting this film like all of you
...however, I found it to be quite a let down. Don't get me wrong, it was funny and entertaining, but it was average at best. It did not come anywhere near the comedic genious of the previous 4... and as K Smith's final installment, I expected a whole hell of alot more.
There were definately moments where I was laughing very hard, but as a whole... dick and fart jokes only get you so far... and when you KNOW K. Smith can write better than that, you want to see that.
Anyway, this thread is not meant to reveal the movie, so please be considerate of others who have not seen the movie yet and are looking for feedback before seeing it when you post on this thread.

I enjoyed it. Thought it was good, but not his best. But I also expected more inside jokes.

I liked it enough to see it twice. A lot of the movie was inside jokes. It isn't a 'smart' movie but Smith didn't want to make a smart movie, he wanted to make a fun goofy movie that's a blast to watch and it succeeded greatly. Definitely the funniest movie of this summer (though Ghost World was the best).
Also Eliza Dushku is unreasonably hot.

Yes... I did forget to mention Eliza and Shannon and Ali are reason enough alone to see this film.

Jason Mewes is such a good actor... I loved the planet of the apes parody and his monlogue!

One thing to say about that Erin- he sure would have been a better lead than Whalberg.

sheeplovr,
your exactly right, the movie was just that, nutZ and craZy and did not make alot of sense... which is fine, and I said it was entertaining.
However for his last installment of these movies, and after all the hype, a little fluff film like this is dissapointing.
I thought past characters were going to have more of a role, I thought that there would be alot more inside jokes, and I really thought in some obscure way he would tie all the films together... none of which he did.
I did enjoy this film for what it was... but as far as reaching the greatness of his previous films, it falls way short.
Again this is just my opinion, and if this movie met all your expectations... then great.

Did anyone else think Jennifer wasn't hot enough to be one of the diamond thieves? Must be nice to be the director's wife.

I own the movie on boot leg & the more you watch it the better it is. Maybe the movie can not hold up to the other four but compared to the rest of this summers comedies it KICKED ASS.
Still top 8 in NY.

Hey TomPoo, heres an answer to a question posed to Kevin Smith about the movie that I found on viewaskew...maybe it'll give you a new insight...
What are the many aspects that connect the New Jersey Quadrilogy?" - Aaron Fisher
KS: "The New Jersey Chronicles?" What are the aspects?
Mysterio: Yeah, I think that's what's he's referring to.
KS: There's the obvious stuff. Like there's usually hockey references, JAWS references, STAR WARS references, dick and fart jokes. Primarily dick jokes, there's not a lot of fart jokes in the movie. I think there's two in this movie.
Mysterio: And one big one with Jay in the beginning.
KS: Yeah, yeah. The less obvious, in which isn't to say it's hidden, but they're relationship pictures - all of them. You know CLERKS is about the relationships between guys. MALLRATS is more about the relationships between men and women. CHASING AMY is about that bizarre relationship between two best friends and a girl. DOGMA is about the relationship between man and God. They're kind of unseen relationship. And JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK is about the relationship of two idiots; you know, two innocents or corrupt innocents who are kind profane innocents in a world that doesn't seem to quite understand them and also about the relationship between the audience and Hollywood. If you want to go for something deep on JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK, don't bring your "hip boots" `cause there's not much depth in there, but if you want to look deep for it and try and write a paper on it, it is kind of about the relationship between filmmaker and studio, between audience and studio, between audience and film. You know, because it's about how we relate to movies. I mean the movie is kind of a big valentine to movies, but really it's more of a big valentine to the people that supported our movies.

thanks sunndoggy... now I have to go see it again... well thats not so bad, I would see it 100 more times for Shannon and Eliza.
Interesting perspective on the movie though... I still felt it fell short of expectations

One other thing TomPoo...there were a ton of inside jokes! I don't want to mention any b/c this is a non-spoiler thread, but there were dozens of inside jokes...maybe you do need to see it again?
