I thought this thread was going to be about Marx and/or the owner class robbing the working class of their labor and thus their dignity. Maybe some indictment on capitilism and the "greed is good" mentality it inspires.

But this is good too.

well, if you break it down, the elves contribute equally for the benefit of the north pole, yet who's the fat fuck filling his fat face with milk and cookies? on paper, communism works, but realistically...

If the elves realized that they don't need fucking clause they could work together and do the work themselves and thus reap the benefits of their labor.

Claus needs them not the other way around.

the elves are lead to believe that they are common owners of the state (the north pole) and the government/ industry (santa) is working for the common good and benefit.

now santa justifies his perks by saying he can't bring every elf. he's fat and jolly, yet they are scrawny midgits. his iron fist totalitarism keeps them in line.

The sad part is that without total solidarity among the elves, any hope of freedom is lost. One Judas elf could be encouraged by Claus to cause dissention in the ranks of elves. His first goal would probably be to discredit the leaders of the revolution. Perhaps calling them liberal and thus too weak to lead. Many elves may buy into this scheme and Clause will crush the divided factions one by one.

Total solidarity is required. One for all and all for one. Why can't these elves see that!!!

In October 1991 the first free parliamentary elections after World War II took place in Poland. After all, The elections of June 1989 that led to the establishment of first non-communist government were based upon a kind of agreement with communists. The political situation in 1991 was difficult; after two years of tough economic reforms undertaken by the liberal governments of Mr. T. Mazowicki of the Democratic Union and Mr. J.K. Bielecki of the Liberal Democratic Congress, there was a lot of disappointment among the people, due to the poor economic conditions of large groups in society. The government had to face opposition from two sides; the post-communists and the right-wing parties, both playing on the feelings of the people and trying to create populist impressions of easy solutions for all problems. The right-wing parties were even more dangerous; they used nationalistic and populist phraseology with elements of anti-Semitic sentiments.

The elections of 1991 were based on a pure proportional system. This, and the large number of parties participating in the elections, resulted in the split of the parliament into 20 small or middle sized groupings. The best results were achieved by the Democratic Union and the post-communist Alliance of Democratic Left, SLD, with each of them gathering about 12% of the vote. Second best were a group of parties that achieved about 10% with among them KLD, the Liberal Democratic Congress.

Liberal Parties
There are two parties that can be associated with liberalism in Polish terms:

UD, the Democratic Union, a post-Solidarinosc party, grouping most of the Warsaw intellectuals from the old opposition. However, its orientation is not easy to describe, as there are various political views represented in it. There are three fractions within the party; social liberals, conservative liberals and greens. There is also a large group of party members and Members of Parliament for the party who do not belong to any of these groups. The factors that keep the party together are, as it's members claim, a feeling of common responsibility for the country and a good taste in politics. In Polish politics, this means a very, very much.
KLD, the Liberal Democratic Congress, a group of young professionals which has it's origins in Gdansk in the middle eighties. They were also connected with the Solidarinosc movement. Politically, they are far from the trade union's ideology, representing liberal economical views. However, their political orientation was not very clear because of their previous links with Walesa and with some right-wing parties. This led them to most bizarre decisions like joining the European Democratic Union, the European federation of conservative parties. Nevertheless, their latest declarations, for example the one on relations between state and church, indicate their slow evolution towards liberalism.
Also, it has to be stressed that both KLD and UD are the main designers of the economic reforms in Poland since the end of communism.

Coalition
As a result of the atmosphere created during the elections, both UD and KLD became isolated. As a consequence, five right-wing parties created a coalition and proposed J. Olszewski as new prime minister and a new cabinet which they called "the breakthrough government". Apart from some small political groups, the coalition was formed by the following parties:

PC, the Centre Alliance, a strongly anti-communist party, at first they were the closest supporter of Walesa during the presidential elections and later they became his major enemy;
ZCHN, the Christian National Union, a right-wing party close to the church;
PL, the People's Alliance, a post-Solidarinosc peasants' party;
It took quite a long time before Olszewski's candidature was accepted by the parliament and the President. Finally, his government started work in the beginning of 1992. It was a government of diversity. On the one hand featuring good spec
