here's a little background- i college i lived with a couple of musicians. one guy played guitar in a hiphop band, the other, a good-for-nothing guitar major hippie.
the hippie was a very talented jazz style guitarist. fine and dandy, but he would blast and play that jam shit all day/nite long.
and i really will listen to anything, except maybe country. the world would be such a better place w/o jam bands and hippies.
sorry dark hippie

it kind of reminds you of some of the 'wierd lengthy' songs that Yes and Deep Purple... Zappa had a few too 'and with the xylophone'
getting high can change your perspective a bunch...

I hate Jam bands or any group that calls themselves a "jam" band. Dave Matthews and Phish are the worst.
And yes country music today sucks. But listen to stuff recorded in the 50's and 60'-doesnt get too much better than that.
Thanks to Reefdwella for the great Sig Pic.

I remember a friend of mine telling me how GREAT it was that Phish did like 5 songs in thier 2 hour set. He told me how they just went off in different directions, and the keyboard player used his feet at one point.
I felt so sorry for that young man at that moment. If I drove all the way out to see Phish, sat through the openers just to see them play 5 songs with 20+ minute jams in the middle I would wait for the band outside the venue with a rifle.

I work with one of the biggest PHISH fans on the planet. He's been to at least 20 shows this year, most out of state. His parents were also friends with Jerry Garcia. He's a good guy and we get along great. He does love his herb and he dresses 'hippy corporate casual' at the job...
i call him Phishman and he calls me Funkman...

It may very well be our best song.

"Jam bands" don't actually "jam". They "noodle." Or engage in "wankery." All in all, awful.

Jam bands have hippies for fans. Hippies ALWAYS come in last. It's the law.
Metal fans almost beat them out for the bottom spot, right around 1988 or so, but then everyone remembered metal sucked and forgot it existed.

There are a few talented jam bands out there, but in reality, a jam band can only be appreciated in certain situations, like at a show, and you have to like to dance. They have to have a strong rhythm section. The best "jam band" I ever saw live was "Shari Katz and the Peace Train" because their rhythm was so fuckin powerful that you couldn't not dance. That's what its for, its not for listening, its for moving.
That being said, I generally don't listen to jam bands unless I'm at a show.
