it's a great book. i never read it as a kid. but a friend of mine, who is a composer, wrote something based on the book, so i read it about two or three years ago. it's worth a read, for both the young and old.

but the best children's book would have to be

Great thread. I have a daughter so I've picked up a bunch of childhood favorites for her. This is one of the first books I picked out for her when I was getting books for her before she was born.

<img src="http://www.thelibrarylady.net/images/Corduroy.JPG" height=250 width=300></img>

Another of my favorites that we picked out for her. There's a sequel that's okay, but it's not as good as the original. There are also some bastardized new corduro books that aren't by the same author or artist. Steer clear.

and care bears is long gone

Ari's right. Care bears are back in a big, big way.

<img src = http://pregnancytoday.com/books/hungry.gif>

Another excellent choice. Also another one we picked up for my daughter.

<img src="http://www.bookpeople.com/images/isbn/wtpg1.jpg"></img>

Dammit! That's the one I'm going to add. The illustrations alone are amazing. I'm not one for McFarlane action figures normally, but they did some of the monsters in this book. I had to pick them up, because they looked so amazing.

never read it but thanks for the info...

my favorite was 'GEORGE' . It was about a little ghost who left home because the owner fixed all the creaks and squeaks of the doors and floors. He found the world around him to be a scary place and he eventually returned home. When he returned the doors and floors became squeaky and creaky again and he was happy. I've been unable to locate the book on the net although my wife found it at the local library.
