For the past 20 years you environmenatalist wackos have been crying about global warming. So why did I spend 3 hours shoveling my driveway, front steps and sidewalks?

Maybe its because most of you are a bunch of spoiled rich kids with no jobs living off daddys huge salary and you had jose the mexican to do all your shoveling for you.

Observe the "neo-conservative". This is NOT an actual conservative. This is someone who claims to be a conservative simply out of laziness/convenience. The usually demonstrate all of the stereotypes that REAL conservatives get saddled with (Minorities/Women/Special interest groups getting "too much", recycling/environmental programs are a pain in the ass/lie, "The Man Show" is a triumph of anti-feminism, white guys don't get enough credit/are picked on too much, "PC" stops me from being an asshole, etc., etc.). An excellent question. But the answer to why there's a foot and a half of snow on the ground may be this: because the earth is warming.

In any system of sufficient complexity, there is an element of chaos, of unpredictablility. This is quite different from not knowing all the variables, with weather, and other chaotic phenomena, tha variables are so many, from so many sources, all changing constantly themsleves, that long-term predictability fails. Meaning: No one really knows What the weather will be in a week. A day? They're pretty good. A couple days? eh... A week? fuhgetabouttit...

So; we have a Chaotic System.

The study of these systems is such that it is found that when the system is altered in a major way, meaning one large factor or combination of small factors is pushing the system in a certain direction; the response at first may be a More Chaotic System during the change, and part of that additional chaos will necesarily be local responses that are the opposite of the larger trend.

Meaning: The Earth is getting Warmer. Result? During this gradual warming, that we will see evidence for, we will see an increase in how Chaotic the weather is. Increase in hurricane activity perhaps, or increased snowfalls. Bigger temperature swings. Big weather changes in small time periods.

Now, the only problem for those who believe in Global Warming...

The above sentence works ALSO for: The Earth Is Getting Cooler. During this gradual cooling.... blah blah blah

All the techno-bullshit means no one really know what's going on. Maybe this is evidence of Cooling. There is some compelling evidence for warming though, so those should be mentioned; but this is too long already...

Ditto what Mike said. We don't know what's going on, although that hole in the ozone makes me a bit nervous. I remember my highschool chemistry teacher, very much a conservative, telling us that the hole in the ozone had "disappeared." What he failed to tell us is that it reappears, bigger each time. It's never a bad idea to behave in an environmentally sound manner.

Oh, he stands out and would quickly be devoured in the sea, but when there is a change in the sea floors coloring, watch out! He will be the one with the advantage. He will meet up with another blue one and their offspring (paradoxically, mostly brown!) will survive the temporary change. Proof that nature has safetys in place that will protect future generations and assuring that something survives.

The fact that it snowed today doesn't prove or disprove anything. The effects of global warming are gradual. Drastic changes in climate patterns may not even be detectable within your lifetime.

I'm glad you're able to direct your misplaced anger toward something constructive though.

Maybe you should do a little more research before you spout your stupidity. The major proponents of global warming are research scientists with years of statistical data to back up thier claims.

The only problem that I have with the scientists prediction of global warming is that, when run in reverse from where they project the temperature range will be if action isnt taken, their models dont even come close to predicting present temperature ranges.

Ahh the True Blue Bloods. We have Hemoglobin; with it's Iron; and our blood is red.

Oh and Global Warming? Well some things:

Basically anytime you burn something you release two things; Water Vapor and Carbon Dioxide:

Burnable Stuff with Carbon and Hydrogen [just about everything; like say, fossils fuels]

CH + O2 ----- CO2 + H20 + all the other stuff.

Water when you burn something? Yep; look at the match more closely...

Anyway: CO2 is being released by us, and the planet, in big numbers that are estimated to get bigger. Perhaps double the CO2 emissions by humans by, um...2020 or 2050 by some estimate i read and cant recall.

Now, whether or not this will cause the Earth to warm is debatable; That CO2 [and other gases, like hey! water vapor] can contribute to a Greenhouse Effect we know. We looked at Venus.

Venus has clouds; can't see the surface from space. Carl Sagan, before becoming famous as a popularizer [is that a word?] of science did research on planetary atmospherics. He predicted the clouds were Not Water Vapor by the Oxides of Sulfur and Carbon and Nitrogen. So plenty of COx and SOx and NOx. Result? He predicted a runaway greehouse effect; and this was borne out when we were able to detect it.

I forget exactly the surface temperature of venus, but 800F comes to mind.

We also found out how catastrophic a lack of Ozone can be. We looked at Mars. It has an atmosphere, but tenuous compared to ours; and the result? Mars' surface is seemingly scrubbed clean of any life because the surface is bathed in a high UV light flux.

Oh wait! All those NASA missions are a waste of money. [Well, actually I agree; on the STS and ISS; let's get back to the Moon!]
