I grew up on a steady diet of WWF as a kid, as probably most people did, but UWF was my favorite wrestling growing up. THe worst part about it was they would never finish their main event on TV and would show the ending the following week. World Class and NWA on TBS were next, I watched WWF faithfully but it was always jobbers that were on and it was never really exciting unless it was at MSG or Boston Garden on SATELITE, or Sat Night's Main Event. Looking back, it's hard to believe that their the only ones who lasted.
The promotion I miss most of all today though is ECW.

My favorite was and still is New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Honorable mention- Georgia Championship Wrestling.
Defeat leads me to anger...anger that leads me to victory!

North American: the NWA, especially later 1980s.
Non-American: All-Japan in the 90s pretty much kicks everyone's ass up and down the block and makes them LIKE it.

going to school in Delaware during the rise of ECW was my favorite wrestling time. though WRESTLINGFAN brings up a good one with the AWA shows on ESPN. that is where i first saw Shawn Michaels wrestling against i believe Rose and Landell.

EC-dub... nothing else mattered!
Amen. Nothing else ever made me want to be in front of a TV at 1am on Saturday nights...then make sure to run a tape for the full 8 hours, just in case a Knicks or Rangers game ran long & bumped the show a little off schedule. And nothing else could make me sit through C-Span's Book Review (even on fast forward) to make sure I didn't miss a second of action.
My only regret is that I didn't get into it until about '97 or '98, so I missed the whole original Raven/Dreamer angle and all the classic shit that surrounded that (I'm still looking to get my hands on those tapes...one of these days I'll splurge & find them on eBay or something).
I had soured to wrestling all together because I could never get WCW where I lived until Nitro was born, and the WWF in the mid 90s is what spawned "WrestleCrap" & became a totally useless form of entertainment.
It wasn't until the nWo that my brother got me back into watching wrestling at all, on occasion. But it wasn't till I saw my first Van Daminator that I was totally hooked again.
God, do I miss ECW.

1996, I was flipping thru the cable channels with my roomate...got to channel 31 and saw a hall full of people with a wrestling ring. Im thinking this was some home video. Lo and Behold it was ECW. We didnt know it at that moment, because we saw chair shots, people going thru tables, blood flowing everywhere. We sat there in amazement. I was like, Damn I havent seen anything like this since...since, I was loving Florida Championship Wrestling (piped in on channel 41 late night Tuesdays in NYC in the late 70's). I always strained to stay up to watch WWF at 12 am on WOR channel 9 back in the day. But ECW made me like YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Oh I miss those shows. Now I get em on the Newsgroups to see what I missed. Now I see WWF/E doing all the same stuff ECW was doing. They just stole the whole scene from ECW. Man when I saw Sabu dive off a chair, over the ropes, or when RVD would literally throw himself over the ropes into the arms of the opponent, THAT is something else.

I pretty much discovered it the same way. I think the first match I saw was New Jack vs ???. I was pretty f'ed up when I was watching it. Someone in the crowd handed him a violin and he smashed it over the dude's head. Blood was every where. I loved it. It might of been the sight of blood that got me back into wrestling. The late 80's and 90's got away from bloody matches.....ECW might be the reason I started watching again.
The wrestlers that left ECW and went to the WWE were never the same. RVD, Dreamer, Dudleys seemed to be watered down versions. Raven is still going strong in TNA though.
