How awful were the VGA's? How dare they even call it an awards show? None of the award winners were permitted to thank thier team and talk about the development experience. Gratutious t&a and product promotion were rampant. David Spade is a horrible award show host. The whole thing was completely useless.

I was actually interested in the concept of a video game award show until I saw the actual excution. Madden 2004 best game of the year? Better than Max Payne 2? What? Better than Return of the King? Kiss my ass. Just became a game is popular and widely played doesn't mean its substantially a better game.

Awful.

I didn't even bother consider watching it. I knew it would be bullshit. Besides, how can a game rehashed for the 5th time really be the best of the year? adding online play?

Man, I was looking forward to these awards and right from the start when the announced the game of the year without nominees or an acceptence speech I knew it would be a crappy show. I watched about a half hour.

What was the point of the celebs going on stage? They didn't announce any winners, they just came out and said stupid shit. Lil' Kim's cameo was dumb.

Stupid Viacom trying to make it like the VMA's.

The VGA's were the worst thing I've ever seen in my life.

All of the footage they showed involved some kind of sexuallity/and or a incredibly bad action game. At no point did they even attempt to show footage of a good game.

I loved the video breakdown of the last ten years. We saw maybe 5 seconds of every Nintendo game ever made and saw about 3 minutes of True Crime and DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball.

Fuck you Spike Tv.

I bet if you ask the people that put this awards show together, they'd probably ask 'Yea, well, what has Nintendo done for the last 10 years, huh?'

Nintendo has done plenty of things, both good and bad, but if it wasn't for Nintendo, none of those companies and games would be here to sell millions.

It's such a shame to the casual gamer Nintendo's not considered 'cool' anymore. Maybe they're not 'cool', but damn if their games still aren't a blast to play.

Guess you gotta be a hardcore gamer to appreciate what Nintendo's done over the years. These awards and the show itself was probably put together by a bunch of these casual gamers that don't really know much about gaming history. :P

Hey Rob or anyone else that saw it, what did WWE's Y2J/Trish/Victoria/Rey Rey do on that show? Anything?

It was supposed to be a match between Rey Rey and Y2J, but Y2J went out of the ring and Rey Rey jumped off the top rope and landed on him.

This happened after Victoria broke up a Mysterio pin and Trish entered the ring and attacked. After Mysterio and Jericho ended up outside, it became a Victoria/Trish match, where Trish ended up winning.

Trish lost her shirt, revealing a black bra, and Victoria lost her clothes, with her pants around the ankles. She was wearing pink undergarments! :)

I don't buy that for a second. There were plenty of other arcade companies around at the inception of Nintendo. Nintendo wasn't even the first home gaming console. Far from it. Eventually another company would have released a comparable console to Nintendo...like...i dunno...Sega.

Nintendo restarted the home console market after the crash of 1984. Had 1986's NES not come out, the landscape of the home console market would not look like it did today.

And Jeff, the Sega Master System bombed in a huge way. Sega didn't coem to the forefront till their second console, the Genesis. If there wasn't a company that proved how successful the market could be, do you think Sega would have wasted money on a second console?

It's just the natural progression of technology. SOMEONE would've came out with a comparable system...i just said SEGA for the hell of it...but the idea that if Nintendo didn't exist the home game console as we know it wouldn't exist is just ludicrous. You're telling me if Alexander Graham Bell didn't exist, nobody would've came up with a device that allows two people to talk to one another across long distances?

all systems other than nintendo was driven by mass appeal graphics driven bullshit. Nintendo always had less games, but they had the best games.

Mario > Sonic
Link > Cloud/Squall/Mickey Mouse
Metroid Prime > Halo

Deal with it.

Nintendo wasn't the first with the technology. Atari, Coleco and Intellivision predated it, but the industry crashed. Nintendo was what revitalized it. If there was no Nintendo, then we eventually would have seen a new home market, since arcades were still popular at the time, but it might not have been anything like what it was.

You're lying to yourself if you think the home video game market would be ANYTHING like it is now without Nintendo.

There's no reason to even play video games without Mario/Metroid/Zelda and the rest of Nintendo's first party games. Everything else that comes out now is Grand Theft Auto clones which have no creativity and do not make any advances in the market.

Tunnel vision. They seem great because they were the first. How many of you would still play Mario over Grand Theft Auto 3? Trust me, someone else would've came out with something as good as Nintendo if Nintendo didn't exist.

Link > Cloud/Squall

huh? how is an action/adventure character comparable with an rpg character, or even when has a zelda storyline ever been half as complex as a final fantasy? cloud is a mature character, squall is quiet brooding character waiting to palm rinoa's ass while link is an 8 yr old running around in green tights. square creates real and original characters, nintendo hasnt done that since the 80's.

How many of you would still play Mario over Grand Theft Auto 3?

Me, every time. I got bored with GTA3 after the 1st hooker, while Mario Sunshine had me playing those damn jumping stages for hours

when has a zelda storyline ever been half as complex as a final fantasy?

If I want a complex story, I'll watch a movie or read a book. I got sick of the FMV Final Fantasies because I was sick of sitting there, watching what was going on and simply pressing "X" when prompted. Zelda, meanwhile mixes actual action with the RPG elements that distingush it from a hack&Slash. Hell, Gauntlet is pretty much an RPG, and a more engrossing one than the square stuff at that.

Look at everquest, it's not full of action, but it lets you make what stories/ experience you want of it, and there's a ton of strategy that, while basic, is much more entertaining than sitting there pressing "X" all day.

cloud is a mature character, squall is quiet brooding character waiting to palm rinoa's ass while link is an 8 yr old running around in green tights. square creates real and original characters, nintendo hasnt done that since the 80's.

Oh GOD, you're one of them. This thread can no longer go any further, but I 'll try to explain this to you...
Making your main character a brooding angst-ridden teenager is the biggest cop out possible, especially because typically in those games, the main characters (the one you control) has absolutely no control over whats going on in the game, much like the player himself. Kefka remains the best character Square has come up with. I got as far as 8 with Final Fantasy, and Cloud = Sepiroth = Squall = the guy in the white coat (I forget his name) they all have the same personality.

The thing is, the argument is moot because these are video games we're talking about. When I play Joust, I don't care how my little blip found a flying ostridge, I just know to aim for the other guy's head. The point of a video game is to control what's happening, and games like Final Fantasy throw that out the window.

Once I discovered RTSs (like Warcraft and Age of Empires) and MMORPGs (Everquest), I never looked at a menu driven RPG the same way again, and I have disliked them immensly, but I still love Zelda games

No offense to your taste, but the old RPG's have just lost thier appeal to me, and I loved the first three American Final Fantasies.
