ok....what is your favorite type of hard liquor and/or alcohol. This is ASIDE from beer. For those people who ONLY drink beer and nothing else you can put your brand in if you want.
I prefer Vodka, because i love having flavored kamakazi's at the bar.
If I am sitting at the blackjack table however I prefer to have Chilled So Co and lime juice.

ya know....a great summer drink 1s something I learned in Friday's.
Amaretto, Vanilla Ice Cream and sliced strawberrys, blend it up and put some whipped cream on top.....they call it a strawberry Shortcake.
I usually put about 3-4 oz. of Amaretto in it to make a nice buzz after like 2 drinks.

There is a new vodka out called Extreme Vodka. Sure, it has a cheesy name but they are flavored vodkas and I find them quite tasty before I collapse and dragged out of the bar by The Warlocks. It's happened, but that, is another story.

But a good vodka, by definition should be flavorless...well, except for that nice ethanol flavor :)

but they are flavored vodkas

you know what would kick ass? If someone on this board made a thread about alcohol. And I mean all types of booze, we could even talk about beer in it. We could discuss our favorites brands and stuff. Here, I'll even start it off.........I'm a Jack Daniels type of man. It took a long time for me to get to know him, but once we became friends he never left.

When i used to drink all the time, Jagermeister was my usual companion. It was so good.
Now a days, if i go back to drinking, its usually a good gin and tonic.

Speaking of alcohol, i need some help. Can anyone/ does anyone know how i can get my hands on some real absinthe, from the original recipe, not the american version without the wormwood. i know theres places where you can buy wormwood and make it yourself, but i want a bottle, i don't want to be making myself some bathtub absinthe.
Most places that make absinthe the old way won't sell it to america, so if anyone knows how to get some over here, i'd be appreciative.

Here is the definition of vodka according to the atf:

˙˙ (1) ``Vodka'' is neutral spirits so distilled, or so treated after˙distillation with charcoal or other materials, as to be without˙distinctive character, aroma, taste, or color.

It's usually distilled from grain, but a lot of them can be distilled from stuff like the aforementioned potatoes or even beets.

Vodka gets its flavor from impurities left over after distillation/filtration. The better the vodka, the fewer impurities it will have and the more tasteless it will be.

Traditional gin is essentially juniper flavored vodka. It's distilled, like vodka, from grain, but then they infuse it with juniper flavor.

I looked up its definition too:

˙˙˙ (c) Class 3; gin. ``Gin'' is a product obtained by original˙distillation from mash, or by redistillation of distilled spirits, or by˙mixing neutral spirits, with or over juniper berries and other˙aromatics, or with or over extracts derived from infusions,˙percolations, or maceration of such materials, and includes mixtures of˙gin and neutral spirits. It shall derive its main characteristic flavor˙from juniper berries

So I was wrong I guess. But still, flavored vodka ought to just be a flavored spirits, since the definition of vodka is that it has no flavor. Right?

˙˙˙ (a) Additions. (1) The addition of any coloring, flavoring, or˙blending materials to any class and type of distilled spirits, except as˙otherwise provided in this section, alters the class and type thereof˙and the product shall be appropriately redesignated.

But then I kept reading. Apparently that ruling was modified in 1969 with the addition:

˙˙˙ (c) Exceptions. (1) This section shall not be construed as in any˙manner modifying the standards of identity for cordials and liqueurs,˙flavored brandy, flavored gin, flavored rum, flavored vodka, and˙flavored whisky or as authorizing any product which is defined in˙Sec. 5.22(j), Class 10, as an imitation to be otherwise designated.

I'm still scratching my head a little though. What makes adding juniper flavor to a distilled spirit sufficiently different from adding say raspberry flavor that it warrants having its own name ("gin")??

HMMM?

I like Chopin vodka better than a vodka distilled from grain. Like all quality vodkas, it's highly filtered, so the flavor difference is slight, but it's enough to be noticeable to those who drink dry martinis. To me, it gives more of a "full" feeling to the palate. If you like more of a potato taste to your vodka try Luksusowa from Poland.
