Has anyone ever used an online college such as the University of Phoenix (http://phoenix.edu/)

I would like to get my degree but it's difficult with my job and other things in my life to also try and juggle going to school physically. Someone today suggested I try going to an online school.

I am very close to a degree as it is, I'm about six classes shy, I spoke to someone at Phoenix today who told me that most if not all of my credits should apply there as well, plus I'd have less electives to take since it's a online university so I might be able to get my degree really quickly. I'm curious if any of you have done this or have any experiences good or bad with this before I decide to go for it. Any help is appreciated.

Finished my degree (BS) online.

You get a really sweet looking diploma and a REAL degree. When it comes to your resume, nobody gives a shit where it came from.

FYI They never even check.

Check what? That you have a degree?

Places like where I work do background checks, when they do those don't they check that you got your degree?

I actually work for a company (http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/) that does a bunch of stuff for the University of Phoenix.

I imagine, since Wiley has a strong reputation in college text books, they wouldn't buddy up to a fly-by-night service.

Six classes shy? Go for it! Employers will be impressed with your "real world" experience. I wish you the best of luck!

My dilemma has been that my resume is really impressive but I can't get past a certain point in management without the degree. My boss has even told me he wants me to make lots of money but I can only go so far unless I get the degree. So that's what I'm after. My company is going through a takeover and I'd have peace of mind to some extent if I knew I could land a good job somewhere with a decent education behind me, rather than feeling I lost out on something because I don't have a piece of paper.

I really do want that degree and online seems the best route. My boss has even told me he'd let me do classes and work towards my degree online while at work if necessary if it means getting the degree. I just don't know if anyone else has used Pheonix or had good or bad experiences with them.

It's not exactly Princeton, but it's probably as good as some podunk college no one recognizes.

Compare...

University of Phoenix, Bachelor of Science, Computer Engineering, 2004, GPA: 3.46

to...

Slippery Rock University, Bachelor of Arts, Underwater Basketweaving, 2004, GPA: 2.01
