Probably one of the most annoying and useless questions someone could ask a co-worker.

I always carry a book of stamps in my wallet. If someone asks me, "Do you have a stamp", and I have a full book, I'll give them a stamp.

But keep your $0.37 please.

What am I going to do? Grab that $0.37 and skip down to the post office and buy another one to replace the one I just gave you? No, that $0.37 will go into my pocket with the other change I have accumulated during the day, along with my keys, and now I've got pants that jingle jangle jingle.

But for the most part - I tell them there is a stamp machine downstairs. You can't miss it. Right next to the ATM. Most drug stores have them as well.

Buck up and buy a book.

I think people say that simply as a courtesy.

However, there was one time where the co-worker actually wanted the money. I gave her .40c and told her to keep the change -- she obviously needed it more than I did.

What I hate more is people who say that but have no intention of giving you the 37 cents or making it up to you in any way. Then they make a comment about how you are cheap, when by this point, you've lost a book of stamps (7.40) to them.

When I smoked, perpetual bums would offer me a quarter for a cigarette.
I'd charge them a dollar.

Didn't take long before they left me alone and bummed from someone else.

Guilty as charged. But I never give them the money, I just give them another stamp when I get a book. This sounds sexist, but my experience, older women are the best to hit up for stamps. Oh and there was one time a woman asked me for a stamp and I gave her one and she looked at me crazy because it wasn't self adhesive.

As far as using the postage meter, if left with no other choice and I use it for personal mail, I always give the bookeeper, comptroller, etc. the money, even the 37 cents. If I found out one of my employees was using the meter for personal mail, they would be disciplined. When they see me giving 37 cents to someone for using a meter, it makes a statement.

Then there was the time I got a wedding invite and instead of the LOVE stamp it was run through a postage meter. I don't think the marriage lasted..

They are issuing a Stamp to Commemorate Prositutition and Hookers.

The stamp is only 37 cents; but it's $50 if you wanna lick it.

What if they take the pens home with them? Firing squad?

Pens fall under the union contract. So first I would have their supervisor write them up with a warning. Second offense I'd call them in with a delegate and discuss the matter. Third time I would put them on 60 day notice. Fourth time I'd have to hire a labor attorney. Then we'd go to binding arbitration.

The use of pencils is not in the union's job description so they won't even pick them up. Therefore they don't steal them.
