hmmm....its been a while since i drove it often, but it really depended on the day of the week. i did cars only during the work week and trucks/buses/cars on the weekend. either way the hour long wait for the merge sucks.

cars trucks buses for one side is good for the reason you just mentioned. i have noticed on many many occassions where the 'car only' side is backed up and the 'car truck bus' side is moving. i also figured it was because alot of people would prefer to not ride with the trucks and buses.

i don't drive the turnpike much, its probably the highway i use least in all of NJ, but after i picked my fraternity brother up in east orange yesterday he suggested we take the turnpike back to school. now when the time comes i decide to use the cars only lane, after all, in my head it makes sense. needless to say we sat in 2 hours of traffic while the cars, buses, & trucks lane is flying with no problems. I've learned my lesson and from now on its cars, trucks, & buses for me.

I also submit that the Lower level of the GWb is the way to go. I always take it unless it is like 4 am and I am heading across the bridge. (When it snows or high winds ther Bridge is a NIGHTMARE)

Usually I take the Truck Lanes on the turnpike. The car lane is always the first to back up. But when they merge at Exit 8 no matter where you are either lanes back up right there.

Cars, Trucks and Buses is the Route I usally take when I go on the turnpike. For some reason, when I think I might get lucky in the Express Cars only lane, it always seems backed up with traffic.
