Depressing Commercials

I was just listening to Ron and Fez and they had this commercial for the Notel Mobile phone with these two women Carol and Dot whose life's work was making beeps for answering machines. This is their life, their mission, what they were made to do. They enjoyed it. And the point of the commercial is that answering machines are no longer needed because of the Mobile phone. Then one of them poses that they could record the beep for Notel and then the other says, dejectedly, that it sounds good enough. That means they have nothing. Their life from that point on is pointless. They're out of work, they can't even get a job at the company that puts them out of business. It's just upsetting.

And if you think about it there are a lot of unintentionally depressing commercials. The commercials with cartoon roaches or animated weeds that have them with families doing things, enjoying life just to be horribly massacred by humans. Hell one weed was telling his friend who was dying not to worry. To be fair Bob Smigel parodied this to perfection on "TV Funhouse."

So- what are some unintentionally depressing commercials?

there's this "got milk" commercial where an ant is killed by a giant glass of milk. that was pretty depressing.

oh, that matt pinfield commercial on the radio is pretty depressing. matt pinfield is just sad. he used to be the big shit a couple of years ago (well, i never really liked him) and now he's doing radio commercials. that's just sad.

Here's another one. Any animal cracker commercial that has the crackers coming to life. You do realize what it's saying about us as a people- we eat living things. they aren't cooked, aren't dead, aren't meat. These crackers are conscious creatures who literally are in painwhen you bite their little heads off.

anybody remember a really long time ago there was this commercial from the north shore animal league.and they played this song,"when i was just a little pup,whered my people go?they said they never give me up.whered my people go?id never leave them,why oh why did i believe them?im so lonley,whered my peoplee go". and they would show all these sad dogs in cages.it made me cry when i was a kid.

those save the children commercials used to make me really depressed. whenever i was watching tv and one of those commercials came on, i used to feel really guilty and mad at myself...it was like, fuck, i'm over here stuffing my face while there are children in some other country that are fucking starving to death.

oh, those raid commercials are pretty depressing too.
