alright, some of you know i work as a dispatcher for a car service.
Now the overview of my job makes it seem like cake. its not really busy after 5ish, and the owner is a cool guy, so i get to bring a tv in and watch the games that are on and such, also i can smoke weed here. sounds like a pretty good gig, right?
thats where my problems lies. in this case, its a damn good job. but the morning dispatcher and coincidentally the manager, makes my life miserable.
Its hard to explain if you dont know how to dispatch, but he drives me nuts. every person that calls for a ride he says yes when the ride falls on my shift. on his shift, he doesnt take rides when he knows he cant get to them. but he'll take rides on my shift that he knows i wont be able to cover and then im left here to get screamed at by not only the customers i cant get to, but the drivers who get mad that i have to rush them and cant give them any time to stop or break or anything.
we have 5 cars on the road at most, and he'll book 9 rides between 3 and 3:30. its not even like its 1 or 2, but 4 rides i cant get.
by the end of my day, im so drained and stressed from gettin dumped on all day that im just an asshole and dont wanna talk to anyone. so what should i do, leave and rid the stress from him but then i would have to go work at some tight ass place. or do i stay and wanna kill people at the end of every night in exchange for basically being able to do whatever i want when im here?

help me please

Snoogs,

gather your facts and present them to the Manager. it's hard to see his reasoning behind this way of doing business but 'maybe' he has one.

if he doesn't and he is just busting your balls, then try to find out why.

maybe it's the way the business has to be run because sometimes people cancel out at the last minute so he overbooks?

either way present your facts and have your Manager explain his reasons. then you know where you stand and you can make a better decision on how you want to handle it.

i know how you feel. i get dumped on by my supervisor every day. its so emotionally draining and it stresses me out to the point where i feel like leaving. i feel like just walking out every night, but i dont. i stay there for the money. i am in a comfort zone and i know it will be hard for me to go out and look for another job.

my suggestion is if you know you can find another job easily, i say go for it. you dont need to be stressed out all the time. but i dont reccommend leaving and having nowhere to, ive made that mistake.

Not sure but can I get a car and 307 Madison in 5 minutes?

You just have to ask yourself, if the stress you deal with is worth it so you have that tv and smoke option.

You're a young guy, and how long you'll be at this job I also cannot say, but if you have to deal with a manager booking 9 rides in a half hour when that is impossible - well, there are managers at all kinds of jobs that pull that shit. The title of manager gives you that option to everyone below you.

If you need this job for the $$, stay with it. If that's the way it is - then that's the way it is. Bring it up with him. Schedule a meeting. Tell him about the customers being angry - he could be losing potential business if he keeps that up. Don't tell him that directly (managers don't like to be told how to run their business), but do mention the customers' dissatification.

The issue won't be looked at until you bring it up.

Ahh.. well, it's a college job. I think you just need to suck it up, hunker down, and keep that paycheck coming in.

SAVE. I don't know if you have loans but SAVE if you do because they will come back and kick you in the ass. I wish someone told me to do that in college.

this time i said fuck it and went to the owner. ive talked to the manager about it a bunch of times and he says yea im sorry and then doesnt do anything about it.
i left it to the owner to talk to him, which he says he'll do tomorrow. ill see what happens when i come in wednesday, if its overbooked Wed after he talks to him about it, im gonna go at it another way.
i forgot to mention, anyone who met me at hard rock and met that kid justin that came, or aquabenz to the 3 posters that would know it, also dispatches here.
we are just both gonna tell the owner we quit if he doesnt fire the manager and promote someone who knows how to do it. we only have 4 dispatchers, so they cant afford to lose 2 at once right?

Dude, if you have proof that you aren't the person making the bookings (I don't know how you keep the records) go over his fucking head if it's becoming a problem with management. If it's just him being an ass, just deal. You have a job that suits you right now. Rock the boat too much, and you'll end up with nothing.

I really wasn't kidding. I lost my sound-gig and am now doing shit-work with a TOTAL asshole. (arguementative, power-tripping) Whenever he pisses me off now I say, "I'm going to take a shit" or I'm going to smoke a butt now" and I just stopped giving a fuck. I realize that your job is way different, but there has to be a way for you care less about what they say to you. For me, I started geting stoned at work too just to deal with the jerkoff that I HAVE to deal with. I also started imitating him to his face so he doesn't like to be around me anymore. He's a short fat Italian guy straight off the boat. "Whatsa matta you"
"Hey baccagalooooooo" 8 hours a day was too much for him,,,

Then dude, tell the boss exactly what happens. Then make the point that you have to deal with a lot of angry, unsatisfied customers. Once the boss thinks that he'd lose money, he'd try to push the point into him.

Work is like that everywhere, theres always someone who tries pushing off the work on the next guy. Maybe he cant get the guys he dispatches to get the rides he has to get off, she he passes them to you. If the guys your giving the jobs to are bitching, they might also be bitching to him in the morning too. Do these drivers get paid more if they make more rides? Most people try to do bare minimum in their jobs, so maybe thats whats happening there. Try and find out if he gets the same crap from the drivers in the AM.

rides are booked by time. what im sayin is if someone tries to book a time that falls on his, and he is too short handed, he says no, which he should. but when they call to book a time on my shift, he just takes it and never looks to see how busy it is, like he just could care less

I dispatched for two trucking companies while working my way through college. Dispatch is a gut-burner. You have my sympathy.

Meantime, this tard must have a supervisor. Have you talked to him/her/it? Can you talk to the supv? This person is maybe/obviously just not saying 'no we have no cars for you' and dumping it on you to deal with. They may not know how to say no due to other circumstances. That's bad for business no matter who gets reamed eventually.

Imo, if you're getting a bad deal regularly, document it and run it up the chain of command.

to answer high fly, i dispatch to pay for college, i didnt go to college to dispatch

there is no shift before him, he opens and i close, the only overnights are friday and saturday night, and i dont work then.

the only way to not have this happen is get him fired and take his shift. and even if i worked before him, i wouldnt do that cause it makes the co look bad and i like the owner
