I downloaded the the Paul McCartney remixed version of The Beatles final album Let It Be and it's a interesting revision of the songs. Particularly a few of my favorite songs The Long and Winding and Road and Across the Universe. So far I like this album. It's nice to hear some tracks that even John Lennon later admitted he wished they could have redone. As much as I like the original version, I think this version of the album stands on it's own.

I know there's a thread about naked albums, but this is more about this particular album in general.

It seems a bit dubious that they're taking out Spector's part while he's being charged with murder.

Can someone explain to me why on some songs they took out all the Specterized shit and just replaced it? HUH?

I think McCartney had wanted to do this for a while and plans were made by the "Threetles" shortly before George died.
Long and Winding Road sounds so much better without those strings.

The 'Let It Be' album has a history long enough for a book. The fab four wanted to do a 'ok, let's perhaps just get together and record like we used to' and that started rolling the project that I believe was originally called 'Get Back'.
If you don't know who Phil Spector is, he is credited with a production technique called the 'Wall of Sound' which is common today but back then didnt exist.
Seems Spectors philosophy was; if it makes a noise, record it and throw it on the track. Meaning:
A pop song back in the day might have Vocals, drums, bass, guitar, some keys...
A Spectorized song would throw in Choirs, Orchestras, and massive amounts of Reverb and...
This can make a 'thin' sound much better, and that's what made Spector Legend; you knoew a Spector song. It came out of the speakers, flew around the room, and hit you in the face. Subtle as an H-Bomb.
I *think* Spector was brought in afterward [im a beatles fan, but not a big one, dont really listen...] and took the project, and re-recorded some parts, overdubbed a ton of the stuff mentioned above, and released Let It Be as it was known to the US.
Surely someone knows more then the piddling above.
I have no idea what wa done; if they got the Pre-Spectorized Masters; I'm guessing they would have to; it's difficult if not impossible to go backwards and take effects out of a sound.
I'd download a free copy and listen, but 'Free' is not a sustainable price for the artist.

Lennon was the big Spector fan of the group...Harrison didn't mind it and wanted to give it a shot...Ringo seemingly went along with the majority...which left Paul stewing in his own control-freakishness. Whether he or anyone else wants to admit it, Paul clearly thought he was and acted like he was the leader of the band for the last two years of its existence, be it as a manager figure, creatively, financially, whatever. Unfortunately by then, George and John had developed into such strong singular personalities themselves, they weren't going to have any of Mr. McCartney's "I know what's best for us all!"-nonsense. Forget all the stupid "Yoko broke them up"-gibberish...Paul did it by trying to take over the group in every way possible.
I'd like to think God punished him for breaking up the Beatles with his awful, horrendous solo career.
On a side not, I personally think that Elton John's 70's music was so insanely popular because MUSICALLY (Outrageous costumes not included) speaking that's what everyone hoped, wanted and expected McCartney's solo stuff to sound like, instead of the piddling claptrap he actually did. Take any classic 70's Elton song, from the height of his quality and popularity...and then picture McCartney singing them. It seems like most of them could be almost a perfect fit (A little less piano sometimes, but you get it), to me at least.
