BOSTON - Arizona right-hander Curt Schilling accepted a trade to Boston on Friday after agreeing to a contract extension that could keep him with the Red Sox through the end of his career.

The Red Sox will send lefty Casey Fossum and righty Brandon Lyon to the Diamondbacks, along with minor-league pitcher Jorge De La Rosa and a minor leaguer to be named.

It's always quite impressive how they find a different way to blow it each year.

That's a relief! Schilling is coming off a poor season that was riddled with injuries. He is going to be 38 and his best years are behind him. This just means the Yankees are forced into making the RIGHT choice in attaining Bartolo Colon and possibly Javier Vazquez.

Red Sox fans are so cute. They NEVER learn from history. You know just by saying "Red Sox win AL East" you have guaranteed something horrible happening. Just wait until spring training, Pedro's shoulder will fall apart, or Schilling will rip his elbow to pieces and you are right back to square one.

See, this scares me. Yeah it is great and will make for a really solid pitching staff but Schill is a fly ball pitcher and I will bet anything that half-way through the season and with the love-in with soon to be Manager Terry Franconia, I just hope that Boston doesn't collapse internally and on the field the way the lovely couple collapsed the Phillies many years ago. Whereas Grady Little came out to see about taking out Pedro, Franconia wouldn't have made the trip at all. I just hope things work out in a positive manner for the Sox.

The fact that Schilling didn't come back to Philadelphia disapoints me a little bit because he solely did the Red Sox deal for the money. From what I understand the Phillies didn't want to get tied into a three year deal and 38 is a bit old.

This will just make the pain hurt more come October

What is it, three years since a Championship? I hate it when that happens.

talk to me in 11 months, you'll be whining again, blamming your loss again on a manager or some other scapegoat........instead of just relized no matter how many people Boston signs, the Sox still suck.

Umm...yea, its the Red Sox...enough said.

This isnt gonna turn out that well for the BoSox...

a)Schilling is a fly ball pitcher...and he is going to be playing at Fenway.
b)He's coming off a bad year, injuries or not the games he played in, he didnt do too well
c) This is the most important of them all...
ITS THE BOSTON REDSOX!

Oh and this is coming from a Met fan...

To tell you the truth, if the Yankees got Schilling for a bag of potato chips, I wouldn't be jumping for joy.

He could be great, he could suck. He will probably fall somewhere in between.

eh.

Jeter is going to retire to become a pimp but then realize what a horrible move he made and return to baseball in a mets uniform.

A-Rod will also quit and then come to the mets to be with his pal jeter.

Matsui will come to the mets.

Curt Schilling will rip his arm off.

Pedro will be killed by Zimmer.

SteinBrenner will die when he chokes on a hot dog.

Ted Williams will be cloned and will play for the mets and will lead them to a world series victory over the devil rays.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST FOLKS!

Red Sox Win AL East!

You HAD to jinx it. ;)

I'm just glad to see the Sox are FINALLY realizing that a deep starting rotation is better than loading up on the right-handed hitters.

I think it's like Pettitte wanting to pitch in Texas: it'd be sweet to play at home but you stay where you have a good thing going.
