The greatest Christmas Special ever!!!!
<img src=http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/80/70/70m.jpg>
If you were lucky enough to see this as a child, you know exactly what i mean. Easily one of Henson's best, with some of the greatest music ever in a children's movie (done by the great songwriter Paul Williams)
One semester in college, i got high every day and watched Emmet Otter sing about a "mess a Mama's Barbeque" and rock out as the river bottom nightmare band tore it up (and ripped off Hendrix)
Rent this fuckin' movie!!! Its a heapin helpin of childhood memories.

Emmit Otter is great. But I really like "The life and adventures of santa claus." Its such a weird take on santa claus but its good.

My fave Xmas movie ever is called something like "A Christmas Story", but is not the more well known one of that name.
The one I'm talking about was written by Truman Capote and is about him growing up with his crazy aunt or grandmother, I forget which.
It's kinda wierd and different from the other flix....

Is this the one that's all claymation style (like rudolph) and has him living in a village or something?
I barely remember it, but i think you just triggered some old, old memories

If you meet somebody who don't like soulfood
they still got a soul
and it don't mean that you got no rhthym
if you don't like rock n roll
so if you're taste're like mine, like cider not wine
well there's only one thing to do
get a purty girl dancin to jug band music
AND A MESS-A MAMMA'S BARBECUE!
barbecue! Bless my spirits, i swear it never fails
and the sauce mamma makes'll stay there forever
if it ever gets under your nailllllllllllls
well you may be poor with the wolf at your door
but money isn't everything
if you've still got the sun and a river full of fun
then you'll always have a song to sing
so get that frown off your face we're gonna replace it
with a grin and a dream come true
and a purty girl dancin to jug band music
and a MESS-A MAMMA'S BARBECUE!

Well there is also "Ain't no hole in the washtub"
But I liked the Riverbottom Nightmare Band. Complete with the fish that spit water onto the audience!

Bowie, Md.: Berkeley, I'm so glad you're back!; I've really missed The Far Side all these years.
Berkeley Breathed: Yes, thank you, but I don't draw Far Side. I draw Calvin and Hobbes.

DH, its claymation. Santa Clause is abandoned as a baby and gets taken in by this nympth(?) He hangs out with them and he makes toys for kids in russia and stuff and he has to get by these monster things(can't remember the name). At the end he's about to die, but he becomes immortal and its all happy.

I'll be buying this too. I remember Emmet only being aired on HBO. Am I remembering correctly? No one I know ever remembers this special.
Is the santa claus claymation the one with the Burgermeister Meisterburger?

I was just in Suncoast, and they have it on DVD now. It doesn't have the deleted scenes which is a shame, but its got some trailers.
i actually wrote a paper analyzing Emmett Otter as an Allegory for socio-economic life of poor blacks in the deep south (ie: the southern gothic setting of faulkner, o'conner, cather, etc.) I'm so brilliant I scare myself.
