Do you have any of this shit hanging around your house?

I'm looking at a printer I got from my aunt right now. There seems to be nothing wrong with it, but then I plugged it in and there's some sort of error I can't fix. It says there's no paper when ther is clearly paper in the feeder.

And we used to have like 4 lawn mowers in our back yard. All but 1 of them had something wrong with it, but not so many things that they were total pieces of shit.

I feel that throwing things on the borderline between fixable and shit is wrong, but I should know better and just get rid of it.

Anyone else got shit in their house like this?

I hate it when people (especially my mom, aka clutter police) decide to throw things out that they dont need. Simple solution: Give it away, or give it to me. I have seen countless computers that go to waste. I'd take those things in, and give them a warm home.

Although it seems that everything in my state-of-the-art home is running perfectly.

Holy Crap. OK, let's see...

VCR with 12 presets for channels, circa 1985. It may record for all I know. You turn a little wheel to tune in each individual channel and punch plastic inserts out of a sheet of them to indicate which channel each preset is set to.

IBM PS-1, my 1st 'puter, bought used in '93, bad 4 MB memory stick

thermal paper fax machine

H-P LaserJet series II, used to work until it wouldn't pull paper through it any more

H-P Jornada 680, cost me $900 in 1998, freaks out whenever I put it on the cradle and I have to do a hard reboot

27" RCA TV that doesn't turn on

Miratel "Air Alert" CONELRAD carrier-drop detector for Civil Defense in the '50s

pachinko machine from Robb Spewak

cart winder

HH Scott 312-B Stereomaster AM/FM receiver

Norelco portable reel-to-reel recorder with WFBR sticker on it

et cetera. Moving is gonna be tough.

I have an IBM PS-2, from around '90, and I live by it. People tell me to get rid of it. They, of course, dont know that I accually use it.

I'm sure it's something very simple. If I was motivated to fix it I would... 'doesn't do anything' is pretty easy to chase down, as opposed to 'does weird shit once in a while'.

But I ditched cable TV when they pi$$ed me off (miss the History Channel and Monster Garage, though), and I've been watching a 13" broadcast TV with a rabbit-ears antenna for more than two years now... haven't had the steam to take the back of the RCA off and find out what killed it...

Me too. Shot-putted it almost through a plaster-and-lath wall.

Well Moe, if you play in a band, you know the struggling musician who has a 100% functioning rig is a rarity. How many weird ways have You used to secure that Kick drum so it doesnt go skittering across the stage? Cinder Blocks, Ropes, and once I saw a guy actually nailing it into the stage. Folks at venue weren't happy.

And how many times is the rig working just fine 100%, and then you go to the gig and Pffffft.

My friend has a real complex guitar set up; Les Paul into 2 stomp boxes into a Marshall. I've seen it fail completely twice onstage; and No One has been able to get it to fail offstage. Weird house voltages I'm guessing...

And for me? It was back in the day when my [and a million other] car tape deck would sound like shit unless you jammed something in, so that the tape heads contacted better. I think me and a few hundred others had matches just for that.

I had this one tv that I watched so fucking much that there's no picture. It's still in my basement.
I also have a video camera that I used and abused like it was a football. I recently had to pry it open to get the tape out (after having it sit in my closet for years). Of course, this was one of those cameras that you spend $100 for a battery on, and then it dies after that. I used that battery ONCE!

Funny thing is, I amazingly got the tape out with little damage to the accual "film" part. Then, I was trying to wind it up, but I didnt know the correct way (that you're suppose to push in that little button with a pencil) and I broke the tape! I have yet to have the corrage to put that tape in a VCR.

NICE way to disclaim responsibility for the contents of the tape. Hmmmm....

-if it was interesting you'd have fixed it

-if it was boring but you wanted someone to think it was interesting you'd have told everyone that you had fixed it so as to drive your target out of the woodwork

-if you could care less you'd zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
