I just saw that Redneck comedy show on comedy central today. One of the comics had a great line. It went sort of like this, " DeBeers new slogan is "Take her breath away" Why don't they just say what they mean, "Give her this and shut her up......For a while."

i saw that red neck comedy thing too, and that was the first thing i thought of when i read the original post.
The funniest thing was diamonds joke was from Family Guy ( i don't know if anyone remembers) it was the people in the shadows commercial. In the Family Guy, he gaveher a diamond and the girls head started to slide down the mans body then it cuts to black and the screen says "diamonds- she'd pretty much have to"

Your doubt, it fuels me. Your hate, it drives me. The challenge ignites me. You make me fight harder.

Not the only way, if you have a lot of Coke or a really big cock, then she'll love you two. There's three ways to make a chick love you...

It's one of the worst scams ever!!!!!!

I was engaged a few years back, and the whole ordeal for the rock just was the worst. When we broke it off, I got the ring back, but when I tried to return it, I was lucky to get a fraction of what I paid for it.

The commercials (especially that one you mention) infuriate me. They make men look like chumps, and women look greedy. There's a cozy little place in hell for the assholes that continue to perpetuate this whole "2 month rule."

There are articles on the web and in some newspapers about the whole diamond "cartel" thing where DeBeers does its best to mislead people so that they keep the cost of diamonds artificially high.

I have a friend who watches the Antiques Roadshow a lot and does a lot of collecting, and his explanation of prices of stuff applies to diamonds as well-

The price is determined by how rare the item is or how many were made. If there's a lot of them but people are unwilling to part with them, it's almost as if they are rare.

Imagine if diamonds had little sentimental value, and people would sell them after having them for a few years- the price for these "precious" stones would drop dramatically.

Also when the new companies that are manufacturing diamonds start getting more popular, the prices should come down too.

I think if the world really knew the kind of human rights attrocites that the DeBeers are responsible for in the mining of their diamonds, no one with a heart would buy one again.

however, new technology makes it very easy, and cheap to produce them. The DeBeers have been fighting this tech for years, as it basically means the end of their monopoly, but its still getting out.

At the risk of getting political, i gotta say, don't buy a DeBeers Diamond, buy a manufactured one if you can

on the commentary for that, Seth MacFarlane said they had to fight really hard to get even that much on the air, they sat in there with the fox censor guy and debated for a long time how far she would "go down" they originally had her going all the way down and the guy tilting his head back, but they had to really battle to even get the chick to sink just a couple inches..if you watch it its like instantaneous..
