So has anyone actually seen, driven, or purchased/plans on purchasing the new 2004 Pontiac GTO?
I have been a GTO fan since I was a kid, the 1970 Judge RAM Air IV is my dream car, etc. etc. and I couldn't wait to see the actual 2004 Goat after I heard Pontiac was reintroducing it. I had seen pictures, etc., but so far my friends and I haven't actually seen one at a dealer, etc.
If you have been following the GTO, what do you think about it from what you've read and seen so far? I love my new 2004 (non-GTO) car, but really considered waiting to buy the GTO, but am glad I didn't.
I read the latest car mags, and as far as performance goes, it seems great, but I don't like the body style; too generic for me...if I went the sports/muscle car route.
Apparently they are also coming out with a "Judge" model in 2005 with the high output 5.7 liter LS6 V-8 that is currently used in the Corvette Z06 and Caddy CTS-V: with 400 hp, 6-speed manual, quad exhausts, 18 inch wheels, etc.
If they do, and it comes in Orbit Orange, TooCute just may get my current car.
Ah, to dream!

The funny thing is, for about the same money, you can buy a mint condition classic.
By the way, http://www.gto.com has a cool flash intro.

The new Pontiacs look like re-styled Acuras.
If you're going to ressurect a name like "GTO", make it look like, oh, I don't know... a GTO.
Ford will own you all with the 2005 Mustang. I...cannot...wait.

Wayne's World and BTTF both had prominent "unique" cars - the AMC and the DeLorean.
The shot of the mountains is (I think) part of Rio De Janiero, Brazil - which is also used for a name of a car. "Kia Rio". However, it might also be a long shot of Aztec ruins, hence another car's name, the Aztek.
Christina's name, if spoken phonetically, is "Ferrari".
Tempest - also the name of a car, I believe.
Well, the Rio, DeLorean, AMC, and Aztek would all fall under "car designs that are mocked by true car enthusiasts...

Last I checked, Rio de Janiero wasn't in the mountains, particularly those of Peru, and there were no jungle-covered mountains in Mexico.

skidmark, my brother from another mother....you got it, of course.....excellent.
Here it is:
John DeLorean worked for Pontiac and plopped a Bonneville V-8 engine into a Tempest body to create the original GTO.
In Wayne's World, Rob Lowe's character drives a gorgeous 1966 Red GTO ragtop.
In Back to the Future, a post-Pontiac John DeLorean-created DeLorean car was the time travel machine.
The picture is of the "lost city" of the Incas - Machu Picchu. They grow a lot of coca there. I know; I was there in 1990. Machu Picchu is just amazing; I drank a lot of coca tea to help me with the altitude sickness and pure, uncut coke was $6 a gram.
John DeLorean's life took a turn for the worse when he was caught in an FBI sting operation buying, using cocaine, etc.
John DeLorean was married to Christina Ferrare.
Ferrare is similar to Ferrari, which was the original car to use the moniker GTO, essentially stolen by the Pontiac folks.
Now, I need to give honorable mention to Tenbats for his attempt. Having said that, there are comments to be made...
Wayne's World and BTTF both had prominent "unique" cars - the AMC and the DeLorean.
skidmark remembers Wayne's World for the GTO, as a muscle car aficionado should. There are two types of people in the world, the ones who, when asked about "the car" in Wayne's World, reflexively say, "The Red Goat" and those who say the AMC Pacer. Freud would have fun analyzing the differences between them, I would imagine.
The shot of the mountains is (I think) part of Rio De Janiero, Brazil - which is also used for a name of a car. "Kia Rio". However, it might also be a long shot of Aztec ruins, hence another car's name, the Aztek.
I've been to Rio as well, Too Cute addressed this well, in her own, unique TC way. If there is a car called a "Kia Rio" it would seem consistent that a AMC Pacer rememberer would know about that. And yes, the Aztec's had their ruins, but as TC points out, they are primarily in Mexico/Central America. When you think Inca, you need to think Peru/South America.
Christina's name, if spoken phonetically, is "Ferrari".
Tempest - also the name of a car, I believe.
I'll give you double points for this one. Not for the pronunciation, but for the association, which was very whooshable.
Well, the Rio, DeLorean, AMC, and Aztek would all fall under "car designs that are mocked by true car enthusiasts...
A muscle car enthusiast like me can and will make a compelling case for AMC. No, not the Pacer and the Gremlin.
The SC/Rambler, Hurst Super Stock AMX, the Rebel Machine, and the Javelins.
The 1970 Rebel Machine was Red, White and Blue (for the jingoist at heart?) 3650 lbs., had a 390 hp. powerplant and a hood mounted 8000-rpm tach. Not bad I say.
Or as Nigel Tufnel might have said; "This thing goes to 8000."
