as i morn the of general akbar, my albino tiger oscar, due to my inability to move my fish tank out of excessive light, red algae developed. i believe the shock might have led to his demise, but i got algae fix to control the problem.

on the back is a warning regarding the product and saying misuse is a felony. can you poison a water supply with it? does it get you high? i would have never given poly(oxyethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene(dimethyli minio)ethylene dichloride) much thought until i saw the warning.

It is an algicide (but you know that because that is why you bought it) that could potentially be toxic to fish.
Any chemical that is designed to kill plants or animals has to be approved by the EPA and is heavily regulated. If you were going to use this commercially you'd (theoretically) have to be trained on how to use it properly and safely ( for you, not the algae.)

Thanks for dragging me back to work just as I was starting to enjoy the four day week-end, man. ;)

Edit: & don't listen to Clare unless she raises the stakes considerably (although, like Furie, I don't know what gushers are.) And get paid in adavance. ;)

NFPA's are all 1's = pretty harmless on the chemical scale. Doesnt mention carcinogen, teratogen, mutagen problems...

That's how they establish toxicology. LD50 is the dosage that kills 50% of lab rats. How many grams of the stuff ingested per kilogram [2.2 pounds] of weight.

So, theoretically if you and a bunch of your friends were 100 kg [220 lb.] rats and ate 250g [half a pound-ish; 454g to a pound.] about half of you would enjoyit as a last meal.

For all I can tell it's a compound that's nasty enough to off algae and fish, but mixing a teaspoon in your Kool-Aid probably is no substitute for Potassium Cyanide.
