entertainment companies are seeking exemption from the anti-trust laws. they are doing this in the name of protecting them from 'piracy'. between this bill and
Current laws it is nice to know that i can't use my computer the way I want. you can read it here (http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/34191.html)

who said you can use your computer the way you want? What if you want to steal money from banks by breaking into their systems?

with advent of DRM and the idiocy of the DMCA .. I won't be able to hack my computer in a way I want. here goes the some examples.
on X-box there are mod-chips that allow you run games that are on a DVD-R or entire games stored on the Xbox's hard drive. these DVD R disc could be back up games you already bought. with the DMCA, these mod chips are illegal b/c the chip can circumvent copyright protection. doesn't a person have a right to tinker with a piece of electronics to do something they want to do? Over a year ago, dimiitri skylorov[sic] wrote a piece of code that broke the copyprotection of the adobe ebook reader. this piece of code allowed a person to view their ebooks in different readers. he did a presentation about the adobe copyprotection at a conference. after the conference he was arrested for violating the DMCA. what prompted the media companies to seek antitrust protection was the recent anti-trust lawsuit of webcasters.
a major problem is that MPAA and the RIAA is trying to Digital Rights Management technology. DRM technology can seriously hinder certain use of computers. Sony created Music CDs that crashed computers intentionally. I guess what I am trying to say is that these media companies are getting too much power. i'll probably write more about this later
