ok I'm guessing this thread will die fast and quiet, but anyway...

In my opinion, one of the greatest shows in TV history was the early run of Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Joel, Dr. Forrester, TVs Frank, Crowe, Tom, Gypsy, and Cambot watched The Amazing Colossal Man or Attack of the Eye Creatures or Daddy-O or Gamera Vs. Zigra or Eegah or Godzilla vs. Whoever or Manos, The Hands of Fate, and it ruled.

If you made it this far you either have no idea what I'm talking about, or maybe you saw the later, lamer seasons [my opinion, but come on...], but in its hey day it rocked.

And on T-Day Comedy Central would play 30 hours of back to back MST3K episodes. The Best!!

Mike,
I so miss those shows so much. Me and my kids would stay up during Marathon night with soda and popcorn and laugh our asses off. I loved Servo the best!!

I'm still pissed that my local cable company didn't carry Comedy Central until well after MST3K left for Sci-Fi. You're right, Mike, those episodes are definitely superior to seasons 8 through 10.

IIRC, Sci-Fi did a "Turkey Day" marathon the first season they carried MST3K, but I think that they only ran about 4 or 5 episodes in a row before switching over to ST:TNG or some other Roddenberry show.

I once skipped turkey dinner with the family to watch the marathon.

MST3k was a great show. I dunno if scifi is running it this year, but if it is, it'll give me something to do for a while.

I still have nightmares about Manos. Seeing that one disturbed me deeply.

the marathons on Thanksgiving were the best. I would hide out in my room and watch so I wouldnt have to help cook, and I could drown out the yelling. I was such a miserable child no one really wanted me around anyway.

They're not. This is SciFi's "marathon" schedule today:

8:00 AM SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE (SPECIAL EDITION / LBX)
11:30 AM SUPERMAN 2
2:00 PM LADYHAWKE
4:30 PM CONGO
7:00 PM LAKE PLACID
9:00 PM HOLLOW MAN
11:30 PM THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK
2:00 AM THE THIRTEENTH FLOOR
4:00 AM EXISTENZ

As a matter of fact, according to the website, they won't be showing ANY episodes of MST3K until Dec 13th (when they'll run the Hamlet episode).

I got into that show right when Sci Fi was running it in WEIRD ASS time slots like Sunday afternoon. I guess they were phasing it out too.

I never had the pleasure of watching a marathon of this show, or even all the episodes.

Another quality show taken off to make way for reality TV shows I guess. Intelligent humor is the real endangered species. Let's protest!

Loved that show for about 12 years now. It wasn't until about '97 that I was back in the States and had Comedy Central, and then the show jumped to Sci Fi. My uncle, however, had always faithfully taped the show and sent it to my brother and I overseas, and most of the tapes came from the Turkey Day Marathons.

I thought the skits suffered on Sci Fi, but the show itself never got bad. Funny right until the end.

I never saw the early episodes either because Cablevision (and it's predecessors here in northern NJ) didn't add Comedy Central until late in the game. I did rent some of the early episodes at Blockbuster, though.

Damn, do I miss that show. My favorites were Pod People and Mitchell.

For anyone that cares, The Sci Fi Channel only shows their episodes of MST3K once a week, Saturday morning, at 9 AM.

The other EIGHT YEARS' WORTH of episodes linger in the Best Brains "vault", sadly. I havn't upgraded the official video releases to DVD's yet, but that's mostly because it's the same titles and nothing new. Just 21 episodes and the three "shorts" collections.

I kinda like having the tapes instead. I have most of the other episodes by getting them off the countless "MSTie" fan groups...the show always said, "keep circulating the tapes"...anything else seems wrong.

Thanks , Peachy, for pointing me to this thread.

I pulled out some of my MST3k tapes for Turkey Day...

Damn what a great show. 2 Hours of excellence a week in a time where most shows couldn't produce 30 mins worth...

How many years did they do the Turkey Day marathon? I have most of the tapes from two different years - I should break them out sometime before they turn to dust.

THE BEST! Loved that show! Reminded me of the old Horror Host shows from the 1970s and 80s (Zacherly in NY or Count Gore here in DC).

MST3K on Comedy Central was when cable still tried to be different from the networks.

My favorite part of the marathons would be Crow and Servo being dressed as Turkeys.
Also anytime Tom Servo had to use his arms and someone would ask - "How did you do that, you don't have arms?"

"I can't listen to that much Wagner. I start getting the urge to conquer Poland."
