This coming Sunday Nov 30, the City of New York will officially change the intersection of 2nd Ave and Bowery to Joey Ramone Place. The dedication starts at 1:00.Party at CBGB's to follow. I 'm hoping to see some other aging punks there too.

I also wonder how long the sign will stay up before someone steals it.

I think I'll check that out.

Joey Ramone anecdote - Joey was hospitalized in the late '80's with a foot infection. My brother was a medical student at the time. Joey was laying in bed with his sunglasses on. A doctor was attending to him - she asked "is there any reason why you wear sunglasses inside?" She had no idea who he was.

Joey replied, "it's kind of bright in here."

The doctor thought he was crazy.

Joeys family and friends will be speaking about him after the dedication at CBGBs. I wonder who will show. It should be really cool.

Thanks to Reefdwella for the great Sig Pic.

I'll be there tomorrow and so should you.

Please note (from JoeyRamone.com):

The event, which is open to the public, begins inside CBGB's at 315 Bowery (between Bleeker and 2nd Street) at 1:00PM for approximately 1 hour and continues at the corner of Second Street and Bowery.

I got to CBGB's at about 1:00 and stood on line for about an hour. I finally got in when they were wrapping up the festivities (for 5 or 10 minutes tops). Then everyone went outside to see the unveling of the new sign, which was kind of cool. Then it was back inside CBGB's for a little while, but there wasn't anything going on, so I left.

I'll tell you one thing it's a lot more tiring to stand around for an hour than to walk for an hour.

Was that inside or outside? Either way, I missed that. Did you get to see the festivities inside? I probably should have got there early.

The Ramones, and Joey especially, meant so much to me growing up. I've actually been going through a "Live Ramones" kick the last couple of months, going through all of the live CDs I have, from "It's Alive," to the last show, and others.

I saw them in concert 15-20 times from '84 up until the end. I blew my ear drums out the first time I saw them, at the old "Wax Museum" nightclub here in Washington, which I got in using my fake ID - my ears still ring to this day. I remember some of their trips to Washington they would sell out three nights in a row at the old Bayou in Georgetown. Amazing!

I met them twice, both at shows in North Carolina - the first right before Dee Dee left, and the second not long after Chris (CJ) joined. Joey was quiet, but very nice - the first time I met him he gave me a beer to cheer me up (or shut me up) because the equipment I brought down from the college radio station was stolen. I got in a shit load of trouble over the equipment, but I didn't care - I had a green wrapper from a beer that Joey gave me! (which, like a true geek, I still have).

The second time I met them, I also met actress Linda Hamilton, who was filming a Jim Belushi movie in Winston Salem. I met her eating at an IHOP at 1 in the morning across the street from the club - not sure if she was at the show, but I'd like to think so (this was one year, or so, before T2 came out).

Anwyay...

No one will ever put on a show as good as The Ramones - I still miss them, and Joey, very, very much.

Ralphy and I had a great time, except for the fact that I got sick from that glue he brought with him. CARBONA NOT GLUE RALPHY!
