View Full Version : El Greco with The Chairman
The Chairman

OK, last time I tried to pull off one of these art "field trips" three people showed interest (and that was for Matisse and Picasso at MOMA), but here's another chance. If this doesn't succeed, I'm just going to let someone organize a Hooters event or something...
If anyone is interested in getting a group together to go see the El Greco exhibit at the Met (NYC), post here or PM me.
If we get ten people, I can arrange a private tour for our group (has to be a Monday though.) Otherwise, we can still go.
I have a college friend who is a hottie and an assistant curator and she will hook us up.
If we can't get 10 people for a Monday (the Museum is closed that day but open for the private tours), then we can still go; I would be a very capable alternate tour guide for this exhibit.

I'd go. I just need to know far in advance.

I'm sorry if I needed mod approval for this. If I do, I think I can pull it off. If not, I'll pull the post, no mods were on when I posted.

(the Museum is closed that day but open for the private tours)
These tours are free and only require ten guests per party? Is this service available year round and is anyone who can conjur up ten or more guests allowed to organize such visits?

For a private tour I would need 10 people and the hook up for a specific date. The private tours are not free, but as a member of The Met I have some connections which would defray the usual cost of a private tour ($50.) If we didn't go the private tour route, it would be less expensive ($7-$12.)

Grant. Sounds great.
I would definitely go. When you have an idea of which Monday(s?), time, and other details, please IM or email me.
Oh, and like Ari said, after Xmas would be much better for me as well. I think the exhibit goes until February?
...No sig, yet... Sigh.
Quinn Loves You.
I'll be organizing a Tour of Gvac's Porch.
I also have some museum connections, so a private tour should cost, oh...whatever spare change we find in the sofa should cover it.
** Every rare Gvac artifact is behind glass, or is covered in broken glass.
I can't remember which. Anyway, wear boots.
This tour does not have to be on a Monday.
...No sig, yet... Sigh.

Great Q; because being the museum-nerd that I am, the answer is very often. Yep.
Seems most museums, even when 'closed' allow for small groups after hours, sometimes limited to one area of exhibit. I'm sure for some it's a tough thing to get, but for some places seems all you have to do is call...

I'd be interested, but I don't think I can get a Monday off from work until 2004. I know that 's only a month away, but I would have had to put in for vacation time already for this year.

I'd only go if it was about Greco Roman style wrestling. And if it involved The Real Champlin or the World, who wrestles in Madison Square Garden. (ding!)
And after we could get a meal, Greco roman sized and some Curly Fries to go with my Curly shoes.

It's over.
We went, it was ok. Great if you like El Greco. Personally I started getting tired of all the religious portraits but that's just me. We saw Richard Avedon while we were there.
We went out for chinese after and we saw Mitch Miller.

I would enjoy a museum visit with this wacky board. Would make for an interesting conversation while checking out exhibits.

Damn. Where was I when this was going down? I must have been out of town and not checking the board. El Greco is in my top 3 of all time.
Of course I'm not in the NYC area, so I probably wouldn't have been able to go anyway.

Personally I started getting tired of all the religious portraits but that's just me
I loved this exhibition. It contained his most popular works and some rarer ones as well. I loved the "Veronica with Sudarium". It had some amazing tones and the eyes were incredible. I stared into this painting for five minutes in the midst of some frantic viewers. Some of the religious paintings are redundant, however magnificent. I've seen the Resurrection scene and Adoration of the Name so many times by so many Pre,present, and post-Renaissance artists that they become boring. Still,it was a great exhibition. I even ended up buying the accompanying catalogue.
See Ya!

when your work is commissioned, you usually don't choose the subject matter.
