Thanks to backstagewrestling.com for this one, apparently he has declined a renewal to his contract and will be relased mid January 2004.

More like New Japan. They've offered him a deal to wrestle as Dustin Rhodes.

Ah, but do they want "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes, or the born-again Christian Dustin?

Sucks, but they were never going to push him into something better than Bookdust, might as well cut the payroll and dump him.

You will never for forget the name of fffffffffffffffffffff..........NWA-TNA! Pretty much SC. Just in time for Bound For Glory.
I could only imagine him and Lazz as a duo, ha! NOT! But he could be a solid midcarder in TNA and will definitely get more respect.
Dusty and Dustin back together in TNA? Go kick Jarrett's ass one more time!
Good news... I'll speak to my sources later today and ask them about Dustin.

Just another wasted opportunity for the WWE.
Dustin was over with the BookDust tag team.....at that point, Dustin & Book were, arguably, two of the most over guys on RAW, with both men busting their ass to put on good matches, but they got jobbed out to, of all people, Regal & Storm, a tag team that was never even a tenth as over as BookDust were. Then came the whole Tourette's gimmick.......
.....he's much better off in TNA.

Who cares. He's never been that great, and has been a minor player for years. I forgot he even existed.

And Goldust is the only angle he was ever good in and WWE has that trademarked. So he will absolutely suck in NWA as Dustin Rhodes.

And Goldust is the only angle he was ever good in and WWE has that trademarked. So he will absolutely suck in NWA as Dustin Rhodes. Forgot about the ill-fated WCW Se7en character? He can still do that or do a take off on Goldust. He can still use his outfit but the name itself is a WWF/E trademark.
There have been talks... I'll leave it at that.

Wouldn't WWE via WCW own Se7en?

Wouldn't WWE via WCW own Se7en?Very good point but there are loopholes. And in this instance, you can.
But Goldust might be Dustin when he goes to TNA.

I finally got confirmation from one of my sources that Dustin Runnels who is unable to use Goldust (because Vince has trademarked it) is going to use the name "Platinum". He is now set to join TNA and should show up very soon. He is still in shock by his release.

I'm glad the WWE released him. Though I loved the Goldust gimmick, he wasn't very good in the ring and is injury prone.
Dustin without Goldust gimmick = Boring.

Goldust (because Vince has trademarked it)
We knew that from his original jump to WCW. WWE tends to trademark every character they create.

I find it funny trolling through wrestling sites today that I noticed hours after I say that Goldust will be known as Platinum upon his debut on TNA it spread like wildfire. ;)

What? Dustin had actually become a very solid worker in the ring during his last WWE run. The only injury that I remember him having was the one that he got before he was released. He was kept off TV for a while for two reasons - to sell the injury angle with Evolution (the awful one where they electrocuted him and he developed Tourettes) and then he was kept off TV in the last few weeks of his contract because they knew he was leaving and thus "didn't have anything for him"
